Well, there's more to this film. Who was the old man? How did he appear out of the blue and disappear and how come he fixed the watch after all those years?
If it comes to shortfilms this is exactly how they are made. Short films just like short stories have to focus on one "issue" only so no side jumps getting into details, explaining. This is all for the imagination of the one who watches.
We can state that the old man is the grandfather of this girl?
It would be good if you try to add a bit of story where your personal view can be read.

There are a lot of unanswered questions in the film. I think you have mentioned all of them.
The old man is a mystery. I guess, they didn't have the time to give any small detail about him. He was just there having a conversation. LOL

No it's granddad he recognized the watch and felt proud she kept it. He also said he had to leave/be somewhere else...
So he hopped by to see the grandchild because he did something good or he could be the garden angel for a few minutes but what I do find strange is he said she can do the exam again since that chance wouldn't be given to us. Now I think about it I should look at the film again, why exactly was she late???
Ummm.. Such an interesting way of viewing it. I normally, do not see different views when it comes to watching a movie. That is usually happening when reading a piece of text or a book. That everyone would have their own way of understanding the writer's words.
