Carrier day is run by a school and children are usually assigned to a particular carrier. So my daughters were assigned to engineering and the other one barrister. It is an event which help school children to learn about a particular carrier and can start now to develop interest in different carriers of their choice.
You don't have those events? I wonder if there are who say: I want to be a scientist, developer, vet, historian, clown at the circus, acrobat, painter, housewife, secretary, boatsman. Since the variety doesn't seem to be big. How about being the milkman, baker, journalist, private detective, fisherman, trash collector or the therapist 😁
What if the child wants to be a hitman, gangleader, reggae singer or couch potato or says: I don't want to be anything, what's the point of being someone because of a job?
We don't have it here. We use to do similar activity on Independence Day where young participants will wear any uniform (military, medic, chef, sportsman, newscaster, but not limited to carrier uniform they can also wear traditional clothes). I guess this is truly a different event.

Interesting. Is this event run annually?
Ah, so no free choice like wanting to be a goldsmith ☹️
