Understanding the Worlds of IoT and M2M

in IOT3 years ago

Like all other technologies, the communication industry has
touched the sky when it comes to evolution. New words like IoT m2m are
being introduced to define the trends. We all are now being familiar with IoT
or the internet of things and machine-to-machine communication, but still,
there is not much awareness about these things. In the communication industry,
long-term evolution has made it easy to stream even high-definition videos.
With the increasing speed of data transfer and reducing the cost of it,
businesses like healthcare, automobiles are adopting the IoT m2m ecosystem. Understanding the myths of these technologies will help you to understand the apt one for the business.

IoT-Internet of Things

IoT is the subset of M2M that allows connecting the devices at the enterprise and consumer levels. The IoT ecosystem has embedded provision for the collection and exchange of data in the form of sensors, software. Popular applications of IoT are more into the industrial
sector like street lighting, smart homes, cellular connectivity, smart cars.

Features of the Internet of things:

·   With the IoT ecosystem, one can achieve seamless connectivity
to execute any possible business use case.

·   IoT platform connects devices even cross-platform
technologies and establishes an active engagement between them.

·    The dynamic nature of data collection and converting it to
business data will help to make efficient decisions.

·    IoT ecosystem provides enriched security while passing
sensitive data from endpoints.

M2M- Machine to Machine

The M2M or machine to machine connects device to device in the most sophisticated way. When devices are connected through M2M, data is transferred via public networking
technologies like ethernet or cellular networks. It is a one-way or two-way exchange of data through wired or wireless technology where there is no manual assistance. M2M is not dependant on an internet connection. M2M technology is in use since long ago in the applications like Industry 4.0, mobile connectivity, traffic control.

Features of M2M communication:

·    M2M devices have low mobility and they cannot move frequently
or they can move within a certain area only.

·    With M2M, data transfer can be delayed and data transfer can
be done at certain pre-defined periods.

·    When M2M is used, there is a need for a trigger to wake up the
M2M device in a specific area.

·   Small amount of data is sent or received through MTC devices.

Difference between IoT and M2M

·   Till here, we know that IoT is an expansion of M2M which
enables the machine to communicate without any human intervention. We can say
that IoT is a form of M2M technology.

·    M2M ecosystem uses point-to-point communication whereas IoT
devices are located inside a global network allowing bigger-scale integration.

·   IoT can be used as synonyms for wireless devices whereas it
is not mandatory that M2M includes wireless communication.

·   IoT device connectivity is highly scalable and M2M requires
more labour to set up and maintain.

When there is device networking, there is no one-size-fits-all. Diverse devices communicate with each other through IoT m2m. The featured technologies will redefine the device networking phenomenon. There will be new opportunities in these sectors and users will get the leverage of it.
