Iftar 💚
It is the month of Ramadan and I’m getting much exposure to their philosophies and context since I’m working in a Muslim school. Experiences that I had about Iftar (when they break the fast) is going to my friends’ houses after the extra classes to eat all the yummy food when I was a school kid. That’s all I knew about. But now, I’m starting to learn many things which I’m actually quite enjoying.
Our section had our formal iftar programme recently and I was given the task to compere. I became a bit nervous about this as the agenda had so many events and terms that I had no clue about. So I kept asking other teacher questions about those to get some idea and made them check the script for me since I was scared that I would make a mistake. That was the tagging weight on my mind, but I could finally lift that weight off when compering ended and it was time to enjoy the iftar.
I took a lot of pictures with staff and the students, but only took less than 10 individual pictures because I was feeling shy which is something that rarely happens. It is mainly because we wore cultural wear to the event and that was my first time wearing something else other than a saree to school. However, I have to say my students are quite good at photography that I could get a good few individual pictures out of those 10 clicks.
I got to learn a lot through this time, and I could practice it again when my work bestie invited me and my fam to iftar at her place. I like how different religions have teachings on the betterment of our life. Non-Islamic teachers were gifted a book on Prophet Muhammad and I’m very excited to read that as the more knowledge that we have there is more room for mutual understanding and respect.
Thanks for reading.
Have a nice day!
