Book Fair | Day 01

Mum and Dad used to take us to book fair when we were kids. We would make a list of the books that we want to purchase in preparation. There was a role reversal with the passing of time. Later on, my big sis and I started to visit book fair by ourselves when we both boarded in Colombo. We would ask mum and dad to send us the book list they want.

After some years, mum could come back again for the book fair since we moved into Colombo. However, all three of us can’t leave the home at once with our two doggies who go crazy in our absence because of their separation anxiety. So we decided to make two journeys. My sis would stay at home in the first day with dogs for mum and me to go to book fair and my mum would stay at home in the second day to let we two go.

I dedicated the first day to my mum fully asking her to decide which shops to go and what to buy since I could buy books for me in the next day too. My mum is the one who reads a lot as she buys book for her mostly Sinhala and religious books, she would read the translation books my sis buys and the English books I buy. I usually go to the stalls that are famous for English books and my sis for her fav stalls. So this time I could go to book stalls which I rarely go because my mum wanted to go there. I randomly saw two nice books that were in my bucket lift for a very fair price actually three to four times cheaper than the edition I had seen before. Likewise, I collected two other books while I was accompanying my mum, and I felt like I thrifted them since their price was cheaper than the usual editions.

After walking for two hours, my mum collected seven books and I four and we were pretty tired by then, so we decided to call it a day. We took some refreshments and came back home to enjoy our newly brought books.
