Greetings and welcome to my blog unique readers, it is another moment of joy as @damithudaya has given us the privilege to support @pennsif in the Steem-atlas project and in the process, spot out and present to the world places of interest. Today, I present to us the prestigious institution of higher learning specifically, University of Uyo, Permanent Campus (main campus). It is no news that the University of Uyo which is a notable University in Nigeria and the world at large was established in the year 1991 with the sole aim of impacting good conducts and knowledge on learners. This is evidenced in their motto "Unity, Learning and Service".

The University of Uyo runs a multi campus system comprising of five different campuses. There's the Town campus at Ikpa road, Annex Campus along Ikot Ekpene axis, Ime Umanah Campus, Ediene Abak, the College of health sciences, Abak Road and the outstanding Permanent/Main campus at Nwanniba. I call it outstanding because, this is where all other Campuses will be gathering in the nearest future. Till then this post will be updated. Meanwhile, for the mean time, I present to us the prestigious University of Uyo, Permanent Campus.

A journey into the School

The University of Uyo, permanent site stands as a cradle of academic excellence and character moulding, with a well designed layout comprising of series of modern facilities/equipments, structured faculties, highly remarkable and notable landmarks. In addition to the aforementioned, this very campus known for their continuous inculcation of knowledge and their commitment to research and students centered welfare is known for modern infrastructure of different kinds and functions which revolves around teaching and learning, aesthetics, innovations, and a well condusive environment for both the lecturers and students alike.

This facilities, infrastructures an equipments plays vital roles in the academic pursuit of learners. Specifically, there ranges from good portable water, well furnished multi hostels, power supply systems, different arts, shades, laboratories, Libraries, bookshop, academic and administrative buildings to mention but a few. The beauty of the whole story falls back to the fact that these different infrastructures are interdependent and they collaborate towards towards the achievement of a seamless academic experience for both undergraduates, post graduate and the lecturers.

An in-depth exploration of this components should make the picture more clearer that even the blind will be able to see the beauty of this institution. This piece will take a descriptive approach and will be presented under the following headings;

Notable Faculties and their Unique Structures

The University of Uyo, permanent campus houses about ten different Faculties including; The Faculty of Biological Science, Law, Engineering, Art, Computing, Environmental, Physical Science, Agriculture to mention but a few. This section will give a thorough description of some of these faculties

The Prestigious Faculty of Law

The Faculty of Law happens to be one of the newly moved in faculties into the permanent site and they are known for their single department, continuous dedication in equipping their students with knowledge in regards law related matters so as to enable them obtained different degrees in Law. These knowledge given to them helps then in the acquisition of careers in. Judiciary, legal practice and even policy formulation to mention but a few.

The newly built faculty boast of their new branded faculty structure, law library, modernized lecture halls and theater, coupled with a moot court where students go to practice what they have been taught via a simulated approach to Learning. All of the aforementioned facilities helps in moulding Lawsan into a better professional as they stap out of the university. It is worthy to mention that the faculty in most instances collaborates with law firms so as to give their students sufficient knowledge and experience/practical exposure.

The Prestigious Faculty of Engineering

The dynamic faculty of Engineering is always referred to the landlord of permanent site because, they happened to be one the founding faculties in this campus and they have great numeric strength which compliments it's multiplicity of Departments.

This faculty serves as a hub for aspiring and upcoming engineers who are aspiring for discipline as such as Civil engineering, mechanical engineering, agricultural engineering, petroleum engineering to mention but a few.

One of the beauties of this faculty centres on their numerous laboratories, workshops, and simulation softwares which Facilitates the practical learning aspects of the discipline.

With this equipment and facilities readily available, students learn through a hands on centered learning and so far have been able to construct diverse tools and machine depending on their various niche. To bring this faculty to a close, this faculty is known to foster and support innovation, motivations, as well as providing solutions to real world engineering challenges. By ensuring and maintaining a vibrant industry collaboration and partnership, the faculty plays significant roles in providing to be engineers with arrays of emerging technologies as such projecting them fit in the global Engineering world.

The Prestigious Faculty of Agricultural

This very faculty happens to be one of the most populous faculty in permanent campus and they are highly recognized for their ability to ensure food security within the school and outside the school environment. This is achievable as people come in to buy farm produce planted by students. This farm produce is always subsidized for students and staff alike.

It may also interest one to know that it is the vice chancellor faculty as the current vice chancellor of the school, Prof Nyaudo Ndaeyo finds his niche here. The faculty comprises different departments such as; Crop Science, soil science, animal production, aquatic and forestry, and Agric business among others. Aside from normal classroom knowledge, students learn greatly through the faculty experimental farm which provides an avenue for a hand-on experience approach of learning especially that involving the use of modern techniques, livestock management and agronomic practices.

In essence through Field work, industrial training with cooperating industries and projects research work, students gain significant knowledge which helps them to navigate the complex nature of life after school. Permit me to point out that the faculty in most instances get involved community driven projects such as outreach programs which enables the faculty to contribute towards the growth and development of the community. What a way to pay the community and in the process develop entrepreneurs.

The Prestigious Faculty of Science

Have you ever ponder on how the different complexities of life are resolved? Yes! It is directly or indirectly dependent on this faculty. This faculty plays significant roles in contributing to the medical field, educational field, engineering field, agriculture field to mention but a few. Indeed, it is a hub for scientific and systematic discoveries.

This faculty was recently split into about three Faculties including; Biological, Physical and statistical and computing etc. under the physical science we have The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Under Biological Science, we have Botany, Micro biology, Animal environmental Biology, BioChemistry. It is worthy to note that each of this departments are supported with a well furnished laboratory, and special libraries which are unique to them.

Through academic research, critical thinking, innovative learning strategies, students centered environments, the faculty helps students to become better scientists which can stand out in the global world if given the opportunity. It is worthy to mention that on many occasions, research initiatives from this faculty as significantly contributed to the global scientific world in the area of medicine, engineering, and environmental conservation.

The faculty of science, Uniuyo is not just a faculty but an epitome of hope for raising graduates who would and are driving scientific progress in the larger world.

The Prestigious Faculty of Environmental Studies

Show me an artistic faculty and I will show you The University of Uyo Faculty of Environmental Studies. It is a faculty dedicated to the following Departments; Architecture, Urban planning, quantity surveying, estate management and the famous Department of Building. The significance of this faculty is evidence in the qualities of life we are living in the urban area.

This is possible as they play significantly in enhancing urban development and environmental preservation and conservation. All these are achieved via academic research, field work, class room knowledge, practical design projects, and various case study which endow on them adequate knowledge in solving free world complexities.

The faculty makes provision for modern studios, rooms form drafting and arrays of software laboratories so as to enhance the output of the department. In addition to the aforementioned, there is also provision for students to go out and partner with different collaborating industries and governmental industries so as to help in the continuous gain of knowledge and exposure on the part of the incoming environmental specialists. One of the niche of this faculty is their continuous efforts in engaging in research on climate change and adaptation, sustainable housing, and the ultimate environmental impact assessment.

The Prestigious Faculty of Arts

This faculty is referred Tomas the cradle of cultural heritage and intellectual exploration and we have the following departments in it. The Department of English, Linguistics, Religious Studies, Philosophy, Theatre hat, and History. This faculty boast of their ability to communicate fluently, think critically a d rationally as well as owing the most beautiful models on campus. That sounds funny.

One of the outstanding departments, Theatre Arts is also known for their magical and dynamic presentations while philosophy is known for their ability to question the unquestionable. The management team provides this faculty with a art theater, which serves as an avenue for the staff and students to showcase their proficiency in stage management. Student also uses this medium to showcase their art exhibition, and creative art works, sculpture and painting.

The University of Uyo, Permanent Campus happens to be a student caring institution and they have put in place several facilities and equipment so as to ensure a flow and smooth running of the school. Among the notable equipment that will be discussed are;

Good water system: The available of the numerous workshops, studios and theaters mentioned earlier points to the need of water in running them. Going by this, there is significant need for water system in the campus. Not just the aforementioned, maintaining proper hygiene is a function of water. Somas to.remedy this, the university makes provision for good portable water that runs 24 hours across strategic positions in the campus.

This water comes via water storage tanks, and boreholes so as to contribute significantly in the running of the hostels, academic buildings, Agricultural farmland most importantly the administrative building. In addition, the presence of effective water treatment plants helps the students and staff to have clean water for drinking especially for those without money to purchase the Uniuyo table water.

Improved Power Supply: Having gone round the institution, I realized that all the faculty had their power station in addition to the PHED provided by the school. Despite the present of these Sound proof engines, the need for power supply is yet to be effectively settled.

The institution before now had invested deeply on this regards and this is seen on the robust nature of electricity grid installed in the school coupled with the Multiple Engines whose work are to help in times of power failure. These Gen specially powers lecture halls, laboratories, security lights, and hostel leading to a high expensive in buying fuel for them. In other to remedy this, the management are currently on a solar installation project.

As of today 21st March 2025, there is an Herculean project of installing over a thousand solar panel in the institution with the aim of cutting down the cost of buying fuel while ensuring a 24 hours power supply. The integration of solar technology clearly distinguished the institution as a fan to sustainable energy solutions and environmental friendly institution. I have no doubt that with these panel the overall operational cost of the institution will be greatly reduced.

Provision of Convenience at strategic positions:
One of the fundamental requirements in an academic environment is proper hygiene and on this regards, the school management has provided numerous rest room at various faculties, seat out and all the hostels in the campus.

To my best of knowledge, this facilities are well managed by the non teaching staff (cleaners) of the institution. Without missing words, the janitorial services here are top notch so as to ensure total cleanliness and hygiene. I'm addition, so as to maintain privacy and avoid any form of harassment, all rest rooms are duly divided into the male and female section. Show me a clean and green institution and I will show you tusker republic.

Accomodations: The popularity and serenity of the institution brings learners from both far and near to the institution. This leads to the choice of some students choosing to stay on campus so as to keep them closer to school and in the progress enhance their interest. With this, The University of Uyo, Permanent Campus makes provision for two serene and accommodating accommodations for the students

Rare view and spacious setting

The NDDC Hostel, established by the Niger Delta Development Commission is one of the hostels in the school. It is an Herculean hostel with about a thousand plus spaces for students of the institution. The hostel is well furnished with modern facilities including a reading corner for students, play ground, parking space, canteen, Audiovisual among others.

Another hostel of the campus of the male and female prestigious presidential villa. Though, I do not know how the name came about, but I have witnessed two faculty presidents lived there so I feel there's a connection there.

This hostel was the surviving hostel prior to the NDDC arrival so I believed it should be a powerful station to run the entire permanent campus when the NDDC was not built.

The University of Uyo, Permanent Site Library:

the permanent site campus makes provision for an avenue which serves as an intellectual domain with series of books, journals, magazines and newsletters. The library is well furnished with all the various units (circulation, registration...) well in place and functional. It runs this;

The books and journals are well arranged on the shelves and there is a provision for group study, individual study and research. In addition to these, the window system makes the library very bright and convenient for reading due to the ambience natiure of the place. The librarians are highly friendly and welcoming as they advise and gives orientation to students especially, on how to use the library and at the same time ensure that their things are well safe.

In addition, the library also offers electronic resources coupled with Internet services for students who may want or is undergoing research that needs this. With this service, the Main campus library exposes students to millions of books by providing access to many other online libraries.

**The Laboratories: The laboratory is unques to the science faculty and engineering and here in university of Uyo, all science related departments owns a laboratory of which some may even have more than one like in the case of Chemistry which has about two plus a postgraduate laboratory.

In this laboratory, some modernized equipment are fixed and used by students for experiments and research purposes. The students benefits greatly as they are always exposed to hands-on activities which foster proper understanding and mastering of skills for effective scientific discovery.

Skills Acquisition Center: This is a part of the school which takes cognizant of the fact that vocational and entrepreneurial skills is one of the ways to survive in a trying economy. With this, this centres focuses on training and preparing students for self employment and industrial readiness.

This, making the students to be the creator and not the seeker of work. Trades such as carpentry, sewing, baking, digital skills, business development etc are part of the components of this center. Check the school website down for more information.

Famous Structures and their Significance

This section of the work will be giving a comprehensive description of various famous structures that are in most cases used as bus stop due to how popular there are. This structures rages from lecture venues, to admin block and even book shops and events center. The list is voluminous but I will endeavor to sport out a few of them. Let's get down to business as we will be presenting them in the following order;

THE 600 Capacity: this is a lecture hall and it happens to be one of the lecture halls own by the university and situated inside the university.

It has a well furnished decorated walls and modernized classroom facilities..the ambience of the place makes it useful for lectures, seminar, mass presentation, conferences and other useful university events.

The Science Lecture Theater: This is a 1000 capacity structured building equipped with modernized equipment for the teaching and learning of science. This building is the largest capacity building in the school and it happens to be the venue for all the vital events that needs crowds. Events such as graduation and convocation ceremony, matriculation, inaugural lectures, and international conferences are always held here.

The seating arrangement observed here is top notch as it facilitate a coherent flow of communication despite how large the school is. Permit me to mention that there is a provision for sound system, projector system as well as air cooler plus bright light. This is my favorite venue for examinations.

The University of Uyo Book shop: This is an essential part of the school where books and other stationaries are been stored and sold at subsidized price tomthe students. This Bookshop also serves as a distribution point to other mini Libraries of the school since it is well furnished with books.

Though being a recently commissioned building, it is location and impact so far as created and indelible mark that records would forever hold. This is true as it serves as a point of distribution to even book shops located around the school environment

The Admin block: The Uniuyo's Administrative block happens to be the 001 building of the school and this is a result of the array of works been done here. This building serves as the hub for creativity and knowledge as it houses various important dignities of the School. Among the popular occupants of this building is the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellors, Registrar, Secretary, Bursar etc.

The building is a central hub for decision making on administrative services and key Academic issues. This building is also the home for numerous vital students services such as; students record keeping, admission, financial aids and even counselling services if need be. The two storey building as a well painted and decorated walls coupled with modern facilities which makes the place more a less heaven on earth.

The Agric Lecture Theater: this is another standard lecture theater mostly used by the faculty of Agriculture for their big events such as Agricultural symposium, General minutes, conferences, faculty wide Examination etc.

The hall is well designed with modern facilities which supports a mini Montessori system of education. The present of a projector, sound system, air conditioner and spacious arrangements of seats makes the ambience nature of the place highly captivating and inviting. This building in addition to the aforementioned, serves as hub that connects all the departments and staffs of the faculty as they meet here often for dialogue and progress talks.

The Five Arm Building: this is a newly built five in one classroom. The name is a function of how the structure is built and the fact that it contains five class room.

The building is mainly used for lectures, Examination and night class reading by the students. It's facilities is top notch and the ventilation is charming.

The Arts Gallery: During my stay in the school, I heard a lots of this building but I wasn't opportune to get here. It is a well designated building dedicated to art and painting of all kinds.

This building could be likened to an art museum as it contains series of art works whose significance means a lot to the school. This gallery attracts visitors and tourists to the school making the school a tourist site. The outside of the gallery is well designed with arrays of sculpture which passes messages that nature will not forget in a drift.

Notable places and Landmarks in the Campus

This section intends to present an array of interesting locations and places in the School. This places are highly noted so are most times used as land Marks for descriptions.

The Farmland of the school: The university of Uyo, Permanent Campus is a spacious environment with lots of farm lands.

These farmlands are mostly used by the agricultural study for their field work practice center. It is on this farm land that measure researches, train and practical experiences are but done. Here, there are varieties of crops including; cassava, vegetables, coconut among others

The School shuttle park: The big nature of the campus gives room for motors to come into the school environment for the purpose of transporting students among different Campus and within the campus.

These bus are parked at designated points known as mini bus park and the Keke park. With this parks, students have no reason to attend a lecture late in the name of distance

Football pitch: Taking into consideration the need for sport, there is a provision for football field within the school environment.

Developing Field from a distance

We have series of mini stadium and an upcoming standard stadium known as the Sun city.

The name of the field owes to the fact that there's no shade currently to protect the spectators as such exposing them to direct sun light.

The Mini Markets: there are series of mini Markets located at strategic positions within the various faculties we have.

These mini Markets sells everything that would have taken student out of the school for no reason. Here we have the following items; provisions, computer services, clothes, hair making, food vendors to mention but a few.

Conclusively, The University of Uyo, Permanent Campus is highly blessed with numerous unforgettable moments and has been able to produce uncountable public figures and celebrity within and outside the country. Below are essential links for further information about the school.
