Weekly CRICKET Review - C | Wha have you done Aussies?
Hello, fellow Cricket Enthusiasts,
You already know that I am sharing a weekly wrap-up of what's happening within the Cricket community. And guess what? It's the 100th edition now! It's a great moment for me. Around 3 years ago, I started my first edition, and I have come this far. I may not have watched all the full matches, but as you can see, I put a big effort into this, watching highlights/ reading the news to bring the best weekly summary for you! So, cheers for me!
As I discussed last week, the world of Cricket is pretty busy right now, especially with the ICC World Test Championship 2025-2027 cycle.
So, let's move to the newest updates in the Cricket world.
Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka, 2025
The Bangladesh team toured Sri Lanka for a full series of 2 Tests, 3 ODIs, 3 T20s from June 17 - July 16.
After Sri Lanka won the Test series 1-0 and the ODIs 2-1, Bangladesh came back strongly to win the T20I series.
The first match was held at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, which turned out to be a pretty good venue for batting. Bangladesh started the batting, and Emon cracked some shots, scoring 38 off 22 balls. But from the other side, including the other opener, the batters couldn't time and get going. Anyway, they regularly kept the scoreboard up, and at the end of 20 overs, they put in a total of 154/5.
Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis began the chase, and it was fireworks straight away. These two were attacking the ballers like crazy, not being second to one another. When Nissanka fell as the first wicket, scoring 42 off 16 balls in the 4.4th over, the score was 78 runs. After that wicket, the run rate dropped hard, but Kusal took the team to the win, scoring 73 runs. Sri Lanka won by 7 wickets.
- In the second match, Bangladesh came back with a solid performance in Dambulla. They started the batting this time and lost the openers inside the second over. Anyway, Litton Das and Hridoy started to rebuild the inning. For the third wicket, they added 69 runs in 9 overs. Litton scored 76 runs off 50 balls. The run rate was not very good, even though with that foundation. Anyway, Shamim Hossain filled that gap very nicely. His clutch inning of 48 off 27 balls made a total of 177/7.
Sri Lanka's batting performance was even more embarrassing. They lost the first wicket straightaway, and lost regular wickets. And you know what? Only two players crossed the double-digit mark, and balled out for just 94 runs. Bangladesh won by 83 runs.
- The decider was held at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Sri Lanka started the batting, and we lost Mendis in the first over. Pathum Nissanka scored 46 runs, but it's not just lost wickets regularly, but the run rate was also very poor. Mahedi Hasan was the hero with four wickets. With a small knock from Shanaka in the last over, Sri Lanka put in 132/7.
We all thought it to be a balling pitch, and Ban lost Emon in the first over. Anyway, Tanzid Hasan Tamim proved that wrong, scoring 73 runs with 6 sixes, destroying the SL baller. With the help of Hridoy and Liton, they chased the target in 16.3 overs with 8 wickets remaining.
Bangladesh won the series 2-1.
India tour of England, 2025
Well, it's a high-tension series on English soil with 5 red ball matches. Both teams are well-equipped and well-armed. After losing the first match, India replied with a strong win in the second one at Edgbaston, Birmingham. And the third match became even more interesting.
The game was held on the home ground of Cricket, Lord's, London. It was a thriller that ran until the last session, and with a very small margin of runs.
England started the batting, and it was a good effort. Everyone chipped in, and Root scored another hundred. Bumrah was leading the attack with the others. From a strong position of 260/4, England were reduced to 271/7. But from there, thanks to Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse, England scored 387/10. Bumrah took a fifer.
In this match, we saw more and more heat between the two teams. The chase was the same. Rahul scored a hundred in the top order, and Pant and Jadeja contributed with seventies in the middle. India scored exactly 387/10.
England's second inning was restricted to 192 runs. So, India needed just 193 runs, gettable isn't it? Well, England fought hard. In the last hour of day 4, they took 4 wickets, and during the last day, India needed 135 more with 6 wickets in hand. Anyway, England took regular wickets, and India lost the first 7 wickets for just 82 runs.
Anyway, Jadeja once again came to the rescue. He held one end with the tailenders, Reddy, Bumrah, and Siraj.
Ravindra Jadeja - 61 runs off 181 balls not out
Reddy - 13 off 53 balls
Jasprit Bumrah - 5 off 54 balls
Siraj - 4 off 30 balls
- Even though India tried harder after a lousy start, Stokes and co held their nerve, taking the last wickets of Siraj. England won by 22 runs. Stokes won yet another man of the match award at the Lord's, scoring 77 runs and taking 5 wickets.
Australia tour of West Indies, 2025
It's another big series with 3 Tests, 5 T20s. Australia won the Test series 3-0. It's not just that; the last match brought more shame to the West Indies.
It was at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica, and just like the other two matches, it was also a balling encounter. Batting first, Australia scored 225 runs. Shamar Joseph took 4 wickets, and Shamar Joseph and Justin Greaves shared three each.
As for the reply, it was just 143 runs by the hosts. And Australia's second inning was restricted to just 121 runs. Imagine the level of balling performance. Alzarri Joseph took a fifer, while Shamar Joseph took another 4 wickets.
- To win the match, West Indies needed just 204 runs. But they could get 27 runs, the second-lowest team total in Test Cricket history.
Starc began the first over, taking three wickets straightaway, and ended up getting 6 wickets for 9 runs in 9.3 overs, doing the main damage. It was his 100th Tets match. Scott Boland helped him with a hat-trick.
His 6/9 is the best spell by a baller in the 100th Test match
He took the fifer in just 15 balls, the quickest one
He surpassed 400 Test wickets in Test Cricket, being the fourth Australian to achieve the feat
And he became the player of the match, and player of the series as well
Masterclass performance in the 100th Test by Mitchell Starc
