Muthukeliyawa Water Park and the Lake

in Steem Sri Lanka6 days ago (edited)

This is exactly the type of place lacking in my area for many years. Who doesn't love a spot to relax with the family, enjoy the calmness, associated with nature? Eventhough my hometown has too many breathtaking natural spots, there's little attention from the authorities to convert them into major tourist attractions in the area.

Anyway, finally it's a fresh experience for the neighborhood, to have a relaxing park with a mesmerizing view. So, let me present you with the Muthukeliyawa Water Park along with the Katugahagale/ Kongaha Lake.

The route

My city Buttala, is around 235km away from the capital Colombo. So, it's located towards the center of the island, close to the rural part. But it's filled with many tourist destinations, known for both scenic beauty and archeological wanders. From the main city Buttala, the park is just around 5km awayy along the Badalkumbura road.

There are buses regularly, or else you can use a private vehicle comfortably. The scenery along the road is also amazing here. You can travel through paddy fields, views of mountains, and small jungles. The nearby area is known as Katugahagale, and there are more than 2500+ years of written tales, and stories about here.

It has a rich history, especially within the main temple, which has caves, stone pillars, stupa, etc.

The Kongaha Lake beside the Park

When you reach the location, you will see the huge lake with a breathtaking view up to the mountain range. It's one of the main components of the Menik Ganga river basin, facilitating 1000+ acres of paddy fields, and nourishing small tanks. Not more than two years ago, there was a grassy abandoned land in front of the lake, along the road.

It was constructed in Water Park and nis ow managed by the Badalkumbura Divisional office. There is plenty of free parking available, and facilities have been added.

  • Ticket Price - LKR. 20, less than 0.1 dollars/ 1 Steem at current prices
  • Opening Time - Every day 8.30 a.m. to 05.30 p.m.

You wouldn't believe that the ticket is under 0.1 Dollars here. It's very affordable and cheap.

The Park is a well-planned and managed one. It's not very big, but it's not very crowded, so there is plenty of space available. There are different seating arrangements, and small trees and flowers are also available.

The most amazing thing about the place is the breathtaking view, which doesn't have many parks. The serene body of water provides a refreshing escape from the busy life.

Children Play Area

The kids will love the play area, with many options available. And don't forget that, we can have a boat ride too. It's a self-riding swan boat service for just 1.5 dollars per person, where 2/3 groups can participate. And on the other side of the lake, there are places to bathing as well. Even before the park was created people used to use this for it, and also for fishing.

The vibe creates a picturesque setting that is perfect for nature lovers and photographers. Especially wedding shoots are a very common service they provide for a very small fee.

So, I believe this is a must-visit destination if you are traveling around Buttala, Sri Lanka.

So, that's it for today!! Until the next time! Enjoy!

Thank you.
Best Regards!
