Dewmini Stores - Buttala

Welcome to the newest business venture in my hometown; Dewmini Stores! It’s a convenience store filled with all the essential household items. And I must say, they currently offer the lowest prices in the area, along with many attractive discounts.

With the Sinhalese and Tamil New Year season around the corner, people are busy buying essential items like biscuits, groceries, and more; spending thousands of rupees. The owners of this shop entered my city at the perfect time, about a month ago. Not only that, but they also executed the perfect promotional strategy by giving away free vouchers and gift packs during the first week, in addition to the lower prices. Word spreads quickly in a small neighborhood, right?

The owners already have wholesale shops in the major cities of my district, Monaragala, and Wellawaya. So, it's not a big deal for them to open a third.

The route

It's within walking distance from the Buttala stand. As everyone around the neighborhood, even from 10, 1and 5 km comes to Buttala town for essentials, you can visit here as well. Go along Buttala-Wellawaya road, around 250m and it's on the left-hand side, beside Sathsara Agro shop.

It's just beside the main, and one of the crowded routes; which helps their popularity.

There are plenty of parking slots available on both sides of the road.

From the outside, it has an elegant look, with its name, and glass walls, so people can see the availability even from the road. We can see a larger notice board with the discounted prices of main items.

The amazing thing I noticed here was their locker system. Without having a separate person/ guard to secure the bags of customers, we can put them in these lockers, lock them, and save the keys. The sole responsibilities will be ours.

Luckily, as we visited the place in the morning of a weekday, it was not crowded. When I sat out there, I was amazed by the tidy, well-organized, and clean atmosphere. On one side, there are plenty of luggage and carts of different sizes. Besides the cash registers, there is a pile of biscuits and Salmon of different varieties with signs of discounted prices.

As you can see, some of the items have more than 25% discounts. It's not very common with small prices. Anyway for most of the items, the prices are at least 10% less than the labeled prices. Uswaththa Cream Cracker and Cherish Chocolate biscuit is reduced from LKR. 400(1.349 US Dollar) TO lkr.299 (1.008 US Dolla)

I am not going to share the prices of all the items here but, the types and brands. Anyway, remember that you can buy all the things for a lower price.

The area is nicely divided into different categories, and fully stocked. There are major business brands in Sri Lanka like, Munchee, Maliban, Sunrich, Cherish, Uswaththa, Rashika, etc. There are beverage brands like **Elephant House, SMAK, KIST, and MD, from juices, soft drinks, and jam to everything.

There's a whole area dedicated to cleansing items like Soap, Rinso, Shampoo, Toothpaste, Cleaning Supplies like Detergents, dishwashing liquid, Toiletries, etc. These are top-selling items on any day of the year. And most importantly, if there are discounted prices, they have displayed them there for the convenience of the customers.

In the back corner, there is a section with staple foods like rice, sugar, dhal, flour, potato, onion, etc. As these are the most common food items in Sri Lanka, it's an essential section. There are few workers to measure the goods, and for further convenience we can see already measured 1kg packets of these items as well.

Apart from the above, we can buy, Frozen Foods, Instant Foods, Dairy Products, Spices and Condiments, Books, Mil powder etc.

So, on that day, we bought 8 Chocolate biscuits and two packets of Milk Powder. There are three cash registers, and we can either pay by card or cash. The most amazing thing here is, in the bill they printed how much we saved with the actual price and discounted prices.

Our bill was LKR. 4300 (USD 14.5), and there we have saved LKR. 850 (USD 2.867). Well, it's more than 20%.
