An update on Week 2's Results and Overall Rankings as well as starting Week 3

Separator-question-mark.png

It's been another hectic week of quizzing with 4 new question categories. It felt like some worked better than others and I'd appreciate your thoughts on the types of question so far - what have you enjoyed and what would you like to see in Week 3 and beyond?

Separator-question-mark.png

Week 2 Winner

There were 22 questions in week 2 (if you ignore the failed Steemit Award Question) and it was a great week for @pennsif who correctly answered 9 questions to win this week's prize. As a solo player, he keeps the 10% beneficiary to this post all to himself. Well done pennsif!

Separator-question-mark.png

Overall Rankings After Week 2

Two Shreks and Fiona (@bluelavender, @alexanderkass and @henryclive) continue to lead the way and pennsif's good week has seen him close the gap and move up into 2nd. Oops-a-lot (@mojociocio and @ady-was-ere) continue to chip away with some good answers and will be hoping for a strong Week 3.

Question 13

⚽ Sports 🏏

Each of the following clubs has won the European Cup, but which is the odd one out and why?

  • Aston Villa
  • Celtic
  • Hamburger SV
  • Man City
  • Marseille
  • Steaua București

Aston Villa played in the final only once, while the other clubs reached the final twice.

👉 VERY close… what’s significant about all of their other appearance in the final?

Unlike others, Aston Villa never lost a European competition final.

Edit:
They are also the only club who lost home league the same year they won the European competition.

✅ Correct - They are the only team in that list never to have lost a European / UCL Cup Final.

The answer was in alexanderkass's response. I still took help from my husband because I don't follow sports. It was good to learn a thing or two today. 😆

It was good to learn a thing or two today. 😆

I’ve discovered a few things from people’s answers too!

Aston Villa has gone the longest without winning a national championship among these clubs.

👎 You nearly had it with your last answer. This answer isn't as close.

I think I know the answer.

If it's correct, I'll let you have it. Your answer's so close, I'm tempted to let you have the point anyway!

HSV, because it is the only club that does not play in the first division of its country.

👎 Oh, I didn't realise that. Poor Hamburg.

Poor Hamburg

No Problem. When I was interested in football, HSV was Deutscher Meister an I (little girl) in love with their star Kevin Keegan… 😉

Ah, King Kev. Great bloke.

Haha, I think I remember even the show... "Musikladen" - always cool stuff... ;-D

I don't think it was as successful as Glenn Hoddle and Chris Waddle... such a blessing that footballers stick to football now.

Marseille - it is the only club that won the European Cup after it was rebranded as the UEFA Champions League in the 1992/93 season.

The others all won it as the European Cup.

👎 Ah, I tried to avoid teams the won it as the rebranded version to prevent confusion. I’ll add Man City to the question.

Steaua București, because English clubs did not play this year and because they are the first Eastern Bloc club to win the tournament, and also because they won the final on penalties thanks to the goalkeeper

👎 I like it when I learn something with the answers 🙂

Steaua București is the only team that won its final (1986 against Barcelona) after extra time and a penalty shoot-out. All other teams won in regulation time. They are the only team that won with a two-goal difference (2:0). For the others, the difference was only one goal (4x 1:0; 1x 2:1).

In addition, the final took place in Spain, the home country of the opponent, Barcelona. All other teams were allowed to play on "neutral ground".

👎 I'm learning a lot from some of these answers.

You can't imagine how much I'm learning! And that's despite the fact that watching sport or reading about it in the newspaper (apart from handball) doesn't interest me at all...

Ah, handball. Another sport that doesn't get enough air-time in the UK. Probably because we didn't invent it. I wonder if the person who created thought...

"Hmmm, football. Hmmm. What's football missing? How can we compete with feet? 💡 That's it! Hands!! Hands are better than feet. But what to call it? I need a memorable name. Feet have football, what can hands have...? 🤔"

In the final match against Bayern, Aston Villa's starting goalkeeper was substituted due to an injury. Nevertheless, despite lacking experience in such games, the substitute goalkeeper delivered an outstanding performance. (As for the other teams on this list, they did not substitute their starting goalkeepers in the finals of the European Champions Cup, if I'm not mistaken 🥹)

👎 event-horizon got the final link - Of all of the teams, Aston Villa are the only team never to have lost a European / UCL Cup Final.

It was unexpected

  • Alastair Cook

Steve Smith is the only one yet to pass the 10,000-run mark in Test cricket.

Two times Alastair Cook???

Oops. I did that when I was ordering them!

✅ Steve Smith is the only one who didn't pass 10,000 test runs - you'd think that he'd have played one more game wouldn't you??

you'd think that he'd have played one more game wouldn't you??

It's not like I know the first thing about cricket...
AI helped me this time: I asked about trophies in cricket and immediately found the 10,000-run mark interesting (there was even a name I'd forgotten). Wiki. Club, club, club... 9.999... Wow! He may not be in the club, but I bet that number will immortalise Steve Smith!
So full intention not to get that one more run... ;-)

Ah yes, maybe that's it! If he'd have scored that 10,000th run, he'd never have anything to talk about! "Yeah, mate. I'm just one of a handful of players to score over 10,000 runs" whereas now, people will ask about always being 1 run short of 10,000 and he'll seem more interesting!

I first brushed my teeth to freshen up, then I washed my hands and went to my room to freshen up

16.1.2025

What is this thing with double freshness....🤔🤔🤔

Edit: one more with the right sequence of hygiene routine:

woke up in the morning. Then I brushed my teeth. I washed my hands and face and freshened.

Another edit:

After waking up, I brushed my teeth first, then I washed my hands and face and went to my room to freshen up.

In case, you forget the right order of things...

So is it brushing your teeth, first or washing your hands?

I am very particular about the order. I'm confused now... And yes, it matters!

 last month

Well, if it was me, I'd wash my hands first. I wouldn't want dirty hands all over my toothbrush and then potentially contaminating my mouth and teeth!

 last month

Same here!

Now I know that we wash our face with water and not powder. 🫠🙃

 last month

Now? I know this since the beginning of the diary game. Four years, five? Ouch...

 last month

👎 Sitting down at home because it is cold is too logical I'm afraid.

I don't think a Google search brings up this post.

 last month

cold is too logical

There are a lot of users who write that they go back inside after getting up because it's too cold. After praying and brushing their teeth, of course.
I liked the grammar with ‘cold’. It would have been so beautifully typical... ;-)

In the meantime, this riddle probably belongs in the category ‘How do I kill time until my funeral?’, don't you think?! Reading diary games (or just the intros) is a great method... ;-)

 last month

It's remarkable how similar so many diary games look. I should probably write a "Diary Game" generator. That should be fairly easy 🙂

 last month

That would not only be very easy (because the vocabulary is so limited, you mean?), it would also be very funny. At least if you add a direct link from the posts to the sc accounts and an automatic mention of all major stakeholders.

I will go with 'holiday' as o1eh suggested.

 last month

👎 It's not 'holiday'. The answer's not 'toothbrush day' either 😉

✅ That is correct. He is the only driver who hasn't won a World Title whilst driving for Ferrari (yet).

Wikipedia told me the four that won (well, each in an own tab...) and @mojociocio in his comment, that Hamilton starts for Ferrari. Thanks for the hint, Mojo... ;-)

I am so happy I helped finding the answer... 😆

No edit, just to be more precisely:
He is the only one who has not (yet?) won a world championship title for the racing team. I don't know if there are any other titles in Formula 1...

Niki Lauda is distinguished by the fact that he was severely injured in an accident and, despite severe burns, returned to racing in a short period of time, later winning the 1977 championship.

That's not the answer I'm looking for. I've added a hint to narrow down the possible answers.

Michael Schuhmacher because after an accident while a ski journey he was injured and is still very sick. He had never been able to drive again.

 28 days ago (edited)

That's not what I'm looking for. I've added a hint because as pennsif points out, there are many possible answers.

Kimi Räikkönen - as he has only won one world championship.

The others have all won multiple times.

This question has several valid answers so it is a difficult one to call.

This question has several valid answers so it is a difficult one to call.

True. I've added a hint to point you in the right direction.

Juan Manuel Fangio, unlike the others, was a champion in Turismo Carretera and a winner of the long race Gran Premio del Norte (over 9,500 km) before Formula 1

👎 That's not what I'm looking for

Reminder: Please wait 3 hours from the time of this attempt before trying again.

Juan Manuel Fangio, as he is the only one to win the first Championship at 40 years, while the rest did it when they were in their 20s

👎 I didn't realise he was that old when he won his first World Title. I'm hoping Lewis will win one in his 40's too.

I’m really curios to see how he will get along with Ferrari

I just hope he wins that 8th world title that he was so cruelly robbed of.

Are you a fan of Norris also? Who is your favorite?

I hope that all of the British drivers do well - Hamilton, Norris, Russell, Bearman and Albon (although I see he's classified as Thai now).

I'd like Max to crash every race.

How about you?

Despite being the smallest country in terms of population and area, New Zealand confidently dominates rugby and is the global leader in this sport.

👎 They've also got a bit of a reputation for under-achieving - especially at the big tournaments. I don't watch much Rugby any more but they're currently ranked 3rd behind South Africa and Ireland.

Question 14

⚽ Sports 🏏

The following players have all had long runs Ranked as No. 1 in the World by the ATP and ended the year Ranked #1 at least 4 times. Related to their time ranked as #1, which is the odd one out and why?

  • Jimmy Connors
  • Novak Djokovic
  • Roger Federer
  • Ivan Lendl
  • Rafael Nadal
  • Pete Sampras

Note: It is unrelated to whether they're still actively playing or not

Note: It’s also unrelated to specific tournament victories inc. Grand Slams

Rafael Nadal has the shortest duration of consecutive time spent at world No. 1 in the ATP rankings, specifically consecutive time, with 56 weeks. This is much less than the others.

✅ That’s correct. All of the other players had achieved more than 100 weeks at number 1.

Hm... @peppermint24, hilf!

 last month (edited)

Hm, Deepl sagt "mobile phone".

 last month

Deepl sagt "mobile phone".

mache ich da was falsch?

 last month

 last month

@chriddi is correct. The toothbrush does have to go in, and what use would a toothbrush be without toothpaste? disconnect got it!

 last month

Really?! I can't believe it, did someone really write it like that... NO words...

I took my mobile and wrote a post on Steem.

 last month

I think we only need two words, no 'half a sentence'.

Come on, we can do it! This is the week of NO team... 🏆... 😎...

I have found the exact text but disconnect got their first. 😛

There's a picture as well of both items. 🤣

 last month

🤣 Yes. There is. It saves me from asking the follow up question:

I took my toothbrush and toothpaste to ...

The end of that paragraph is the best.

But after waking up I tried to not waste any single moment from my time. I took my toothbrush and toothpaste to clean my teeth and to feel fresh and germ free.

Are we ever truly germ free?

You have an eye for great content.

Are we ever truly germ free?

I don't think so. Toothbrushes are also LOADED with germs.

 last month

Toothbrushes are also LOADED with germs.

They wouldn't be if people washed their hands BEFORE cleaning their teeth 😁

 last month

Are we ever truly germ free?

Oh dear, you didn't understand the text.
There is a world of difference between ‘being germ free’ and ‘feeling germ free’!

 last month

You have to tell me how to find the posts. Google doesn't work with restrictive characters and page limits. I also scroll way too much and spend so much time on the computer that I could really use for more creative things. This way I will quickly lose interest.
Although it is very, very fun to catch up on old times with you all... ;-)

toothbrush and mobile 😏

 last month

👎 You’re on the right track… I’d love to know what they do with their toothbrush and mobile?

They brush their teeth first (or was it wash their hands and face first?🤔), and then they get to work on their mobile phone🤨 (I dunno some online job, perhaps)

 last month

Personally, I'd wash my hands and face first. Then I'd have breakfast before brushing my teeth. But my culture is very different to theirs 😉

This person decided to wear their pink pants, to protect themselves from the cold.

In my case, I let the dog out first, and then wash my hands and face...
Hmm... did you just give a hint? That means the waiting period is reset 🤔

 last month

Ah, no. That wasn't a hint. It just amused me that they said what pants they were planning to wear. As though pink pants keep you warmer.

Can I try again or should I wait 3hrs?

 last month

It's the usual 3 hour wait 🙂

After waking up, I tried not to miss a single moment of my time. I took my favorite whiskey and poured it into a glass.

Question, question, question… 📣
Time stamp, time stamp, time stamp… 📣

Thank you for the beneficiary.

It was good fun!

The Who Am I style of question, where people could ask questions, worked best from my angle.

The Movie ones were interesting although I missed most of them while I was out.

I don't have a musical bone in my body so not so keen on music questions.

Quizzes like this are the last stand for humans v AI.

How long can we hold out... I just watched a YouTube that suggests OpenAI may be on the cusp of ASI - with their latest iteration in the works now able to surpass the PhD specialist test consistently.

 last month

I'm pleased to hear that you're enjoying it - I'll have to add more music questions if you start doing too well 😉

I just watched a YouTube that suggests OpenAI may be on the cusp of ASI

SpeedballSmileGIF.gif

Of all the question categories so far, I’d say I enjoyed the musical dinosaurs the most - probably because I’m into music 😅

I also like the movies as well. It’s quite fun deciphering the image first before crawling our way to IMDb’s top movies lists.

However, I’ve noticed that the questions, especially the later ones, tend to be posted around my bedtime or while I’m asleep. As a result, most of them are already answered by the time I’m awake. It's no big deal if you have teammates but what about those who planned to play solo? A bit of a disadvantage, I think. Overall, week 2 was a bit fun...

 last month

It's no big deal if you have teammates but what about those who planned to play solo? A bit of a disadvantage, I think.

It certainly is. Having engaged teammates in different timezones gives you an advantage in answering more questions. The downside... you have to share the prize!

I enjoyed the musical dinosaurs the most - probably because I’m into music 😅

I'm glad you enjoyed that one. I enjoyed creating them but have struggled with time last week so didn't really get the opportunity to record any! Definitely more to come though!

Definitely more to come though!

🥳I hope they come up soon...

I liked the first week more, probably because we were leading in it😁, and the Steemit Awards questions were quite challenging for us as newcomers to the platform.

 last month

You're still doing well - I'm expecting you to be at the top end if you continue all year!

This post has been featured in the latest edition of Steem News...

I am following the quiz every day, although I can't think of the answers, I still enjoy seeing how it goes and I like to see what the questions consist of. But I'm afraid I'm playing alone,🤔 I can't see my team here. We haven't communicated outside of here either...

 last month

I saw a couple of your team members in the 1st week but not since. One of them complained that they'd have to look at my blog instead of me tagging them for each question. You're welcome to remove yourself from the team and go solo if you'd like?

It's nice to have you here 🙂

There is no problem with the team, I was hoping to see them and I have missed them, but I will still be here 🙂

 last month

Hopefully they’ll join in at some point. They’re probably busy at work!

It’s been a fun week with all those creative quizzes! overall I enjoyed them all. I’m a bit disappointed I couldn’t participate in the first week, but since it’s a year-round competition, I’ll take the slow and steady approach like a turtle 😀

By the way, I believe my points should be 04 (Q7, 8, 11, 15).
