Contest: Stories, Learnings and Reflection #01 : A Precious Gift To Me

Greetings to you my amazing friends and steemians of this lovely community. Trusting God we are all doing great?
Great thanks and kudos to @alexanderpeace for organizing this contest. I'm very much happy that I'll be participating in your first contest in this community as a MOD.

I started my journey in the pharmaceutical market industry in the year 2022. It has not been easy but I thank God for the journey so far. I will say my entry into the pharma industry was a great miracle for me as getting a job in such areas is very competitive here at my end.
With no recommendations or referral, I got the link from my elder brother and applied with faith. Barely a month after sending in my application, I was scheduled for an interview. Passed both stages of the interview and the rest is now history.
Like I said earlier, everything about me is a miracle. I was involved in a ghastly car accident while traveling for training. I was traveling from Abuja, the federal capital of Nigeria to Lagos State Nigeria, where the headquarters of the company was located. I saw death staring at me in the eyes but then, God said it's not yet time to go home. I miraculously survived the autocrash.

Tell us the incident that happened to you

A lot of incidences has happened at the course of this job. But the one that sat me down and kept me in a state of deep reflection was just a couple of days ago. This happened on Wednesday being 15th January 2025. It was a gift from a senior manager in my company.

One attribute about myself is my commitment and dedication to whatsoever I do. I carry out my duties diligently and wholeheartedly. Ever since I joined the pharmaceutical industry, I've earned a lot of respect both from my colleagues and superior. Sometimes I kept pondering if at all there are other extraordinary things I do., but no, I don't think so. I only carryout my duties as expected.

I've never for once performed a task because I'm expecting a reward from someone. I never imagined that I was being noticed from afar.
On this faithful day, I got a call from one of the senior managers who was in town. He requested I see him in the office the next day being Wednesday. I kept wondering why this man called me out of the blue and requested to see me.

Meeting him on Wednesday, he was all smiles when he saw me. After exchanging pleasantries, we discussed for about 30mintues or more. It was all full of advices and encouragement. At the end of the day, he deeped his hand inside his suitcase and handed me this lovely brand new wristwatch and said, this is for all your hard word and dedication. I was shocked, full of surprises and frozen as that was the first time I'm being given a gift for my hard work. I've never been as happy as I was that very day.

The Impact It Had On You?

Truth be told, I've never in my life imagine that someone was silently watching me work. I've never expected any gift from anyone. This very gift swept me off my feet.

It was a very big motivation for me to do more. I'm doing more not so I should be rewarded or commended but the fact that someone noticed how committed I was to my duties, it gave me this joy and zeal to do more.
Sometimes I feel like giving up but each time I looked at my wrist watch, I just smile and keep the journey going.

What do you intend to do with what you learnt and how would you apply it to your life or teach others?

As I earlier stated, it's a very big motivation for me to do more and also ensure I do my work deligently. I never knew such act of kindness can actually elevate one's spirit.
I'll ensure that in my own little way, I will also try and identify and appreciate those who are committed to their duties. I believe with this, it will go a long way in motivating them too.
