SFS Contest Picture of the Day 27
Steem greetings @everyone and welcome to my blog as I share with you on the contest “Picture of the Day”. I will share some of the remarkable pictures I captured at the Commonwealth burial ground in Limbe-South West region of Cameroon.
Watching this picture reminds me of the phrase “…We are mere mortals…” . This area used to be a place where slaves were gathered because of its nearness to the sea. It was easy to move the slaves from here to Europe and America. This area was used to keep the slaves, monitor them, discipline them which to me I consider “torture” before departing.
During World War I and World War II, many of the commonwealth commissioned soldiers at the Limbe as it was a coastal town and during this period many of the colonial masters and trained subordinates died during the process of the war.
More to that, the outbreak of malaria during that era also caused the death of some missionaries who were also stationed there and some soldiers as well.
The area now acts like a tourist attraction site as tourists all over the world visit this place every year. When I visited the place, I only imagined what their families went through losing their lives to the senseless wars we created.
Today, many still suffer from malaria though the illness is easily curable than in those days were it was seen as a deadly illness without a cure.
I will like to invite @rafk, @josepha and @pelon53 to participate in the contest.

Congratulations! Your post has been upvoted through @steemcurator04. Good post here should be..I used to be surprised when I hear people say malaria used to be killer disease like HIV/AIDS many years ago considering how easy it is to cure now.
I thank God i wasn’t born in that era because the mosquitoes in Africa is really terrifying. Some of the mosquitoes here can drag u from the bed to the ground just to suck your blood..
Even now, malaria is still deadly if not treated on time, it aggravates to cerebral malaria and causes some people to even lose memory.
It is true we are dust and we will all return to dust, the pictures are remarkable
