Hello distinguished readers, welcome to my blog for an amazing session as we will be diving into another vital aspect of life that concerns us all. Yes! In as much that we belong to one family or the other, it concerns us all.

The family would be seen in a smaller view as those people directly related to us by blood and could also be seen as those people we share in common different virtues, values or ambitions.

For the purpose of this work, The family would be considered as a group of people related together by blood, marriage or adoption. It will not dwell more on the fact that family centers on connections, support and lots of responsibilities. Here we see that the family is a platform where love, loyalty, trust, gratitude and kindness are being tested. Therefore it goes beyond blood ties to who stands by us when we need help the most.

Domesticating this topic to my country Nigeria, the family is in most cases is considered as the all in all. It is been regarded as the foundation of the society and it influences a whole lots ranging from personal values, social status, career choice and even the culture of a given society. Whether it is an extended family as seen in rural regions or a nuclear family as seen in the urban area, the roles of the family in shaping and moulding the life of its members is highly visible to even the blind.

Being a part of any family is directly or indirectly a call to array of responsibilities and this responsibilities are both received and reciprocated. Below are some of the vital responsibilities most members of the family fulfills or are expected to fulfill.

Provision of Emotional Support: Here in Nigeria, families are most time characterized based on the emotional supports they give to each others especially when rejected or oppressed by the society. Here, family members ensures that they stand by each other untill the thorns are over.

Provision of Financial Support: It is a culture that members of the family especially the junior siblings must always look up at the senior siblings for financial supports. However, this is not static as the junior siblings do assist even the parents if they have the capacity and love. However, all these points to the fact that there's is some elements of financial support among members of the family.

Respect and Communication: In the family, giving respect to the elderly is one responsibility every members of the family should strive at achieving. Personally, I and my siblings owns social media group chat where we ensure that we communicate on a daily basis. This is highly essential avls effective communication strengthen bonds, love and togetherness.

Being available in Thorns and in Roses is another essential part of responsibilities family members holds for each other. Here, family member struggling with school stress, depression, illness or achievement should be able to communicate to family members which inturns helps to bear his/her burdens or possibly join in their celebration and achievement.

Passing down values and Traditions: the values and Traditions of the society in most cases are always preserved and passed down by individual and families. This could be achieved through story telling where elderly members tell their children and the children inturns passes down to future generations. Personally, my family has taught me resilience, honesty, humility and contentment.

Providing a sense of Security: On my opinion, the family should be a place where safety is secured to the highest level. It should be a place where members can express themselves without any fear of humiliation or judgement. The children, parents, siblings, and grannies should feel free running back home for shelter when lever the world seems bitting. Here, it is the responsibility of the members to ensure that such a structure is set.

In my opinion, some of the happiest moments enjoyed in life are those spent with families. Below are some the exciting and fascinating moments;

Christmas in my village: as my culture as always been, I and other members of my family travel back to the village for a family reunion. During this time, we are always opportune to meet members we've not seen for a long period of time. I can't forget the variety of dishes aunties and other relatives would prepare while we enjoy the beautiful moon light at night. Honestly, those moments makes me fancy the beauty of family bonds.

Sunday Afternoon visit to granny my grand mother happens to live kilometers from where I stay so every Sunday after service, I have to travel down to where she lives so as to spent quality time enjoying her meal and stories. This moments cast me back to the importance of sharing moments with love ones.

My sister's Sacrifices: When my mom passed away, my sister took up the responsibility of ensuring that our needs were met. The story becomes more interesting since she was just a young girl who needed shelter for herself. She gave up everything just to ensure that we were fine and this moment taught me the true meaning of family and made me realized that family comes first.

Family Game night: Different families may have different names for this. However, in my family, we call it a game night and this is because it is always done in the night. During this time, interested members of the family comes together and engage on variety of games especially blind folding. This moment reminds me of the importance of togetherness.

Unexpected support in difficult times: countless times, my family as shown up to me on this regard I would still love to point us to how my sister helped when mom died and how my uncle paid my school when I started higher institution. How about the messages received during depression? All of these are what makes the family special to me

You would now agree with me that the family is more than just a word. Rather it is a word that compounds sacrifice, responsibilities, commitment, love and support to mention but a few. In a world where everyone are looking towards themselves, the family fits in fully. This help may come through financial support, just being there, emotional presence, or simple acts of kindness that most times may not be noticed.

Strengthening and empowering family bonds ensures that no one walks through life alone as everyone leans on one another. Because, at the end of the tunnel, family is not just where we come from but, it is who we become.
