Urban Gardening: Recycling Plastic Cups Into Pots || My Simple Way of Helping Mother Earth
Hello my lovelies! Hello Steemit friends!!! How have you been? I hope you're having a beautiful Sunday today. My warm greetings from Cebu, Philippines! Mabuhay!!! 🇵🇭
I am very much excited to participate this week's contest initiated by our very good friend @belenguerra to talk about how in our littlest or grandest ways we could help and give back to the only home we've got---the Earth. So for today, allow me to share my simple craft in recycling plastic cups into plant pots.
Last Friday, we craved with my co-teachers coke float from Jollibee. It's a famous fast food chain in the Philippines that serves fried chicken, sweet spaghetti Pinoy style, hamburgers, fries, coke float and more. So we had our coke float delivered in school. After enjoying our coke float, I asked them their empty cups because a thought came to me that I should be using them instead of discarding them.
So I washed the empty cups and brought them home with me. And today, I recycled them into pots. Here's the process of recycling them:
First, I made a hole at the bottom of each empty cup.
Then, I filled each cup with soil. The soil I used is already wet.
I added some crushed egg shells on top of the soil. These are helpful in providing calcium to the soil which moderates soil acidity.
From one mayana stem, I was able to cut another five stems.
Then, using the cover of each cup, I inserted each mayana stem in the hole and pressed the stem to the soil.
And voila! My recycling project for this week is done!!!
With urban gardening and recycling things that we might consider trash, though may be little and simple, could at least help the environment. Let's do our share everyday in protecting the Earth. The best time to start is now. Let's make this home a better place to live in. We are all stewards and visitors in this beautiful Earth, let's make it liveable for the next billion years, for the next generations, for our children's children. The Earth truly deserves our care, protection and love. Let's do this together!
Best regards to @belenguerra and @worldgeography for this wonderful community of Steem Geography.
Ciao! Take care everyone. That's it for now my dear friends. I'll see you again in my next blog. Hasta la vista 🇵🇭
PS All photos were taken using my Honor 8X android phone. It's got a crack on the screen, but I'm not giving it up, super love the quality of its pictures. My heart is broken.
Always,
Rose
