The shrines of the Saints in 'Bagha Mosque'.
Bagha mosque is famous for its architectural significance. As well as it's famous for being the laying ground of many well-known religious leaders and saints of Bengal.
I had no idea I would see that much amount of tombs in the front yard of the mosque. Many say that there are more than 100 tombs but only a few are recognized by their name. There's not enough information about every tomb but a few.
The high top you are seeing are all tombs. Many believe that the dead can hear us so they come here to pray. But it's kind of a cultural thing rather than a religious one. Most of the tomb tops are renovated in the later time. The major one that looks ancient is only the same as before.
It's believed that the shrines are built after the next 100/200 years of building Bagha mosque. The mosque is built in 1523-1524, which means the tombs are around 500 years old.
I came to realize that all the popular scholars, religious leaders, and saints at that time are lying there. Burying them near the mosque was a ritual back then. If you have not visited such a place then it must give you a whole different concept about religion and culture.
I shared the mosque and the architecture in a previous post a few days ago. If you are interested, check out my blog.
