Hydroponics definition
Hydroponics is an agricultural practice that grows plants in water, providing minor nutrients instead of using soil. Hydroponic system means the roots of the plant will directly be in nutrient solution, increasing efficiency level from absorption of nutrients.

Plant growing media which are commonly used in hydroponics include rockwool, rice husk charcoal, perlite or vermiculite, perlite and sand..

Benefits of Hydroponics
The hydroponic method has various benefits, including:

1. Land Efficiency - Suitable for urban areas or narrow land because it can be done vertically or in levels.

2. More Efficient Water Use - The water used can be recycled, so water consumption is less than conventional farming.

3. Faster Plant Growth – Because nutrients are directly available and can be absorbed by plants without hindrance.

4. More Hygienic and Pesticide-Free – The planting environment is more controlled so the risk of pests and diseases is smaller.

5. Not Dependent on Season – Hydroponic systems can be done in greenhouses or closed spaces with artificial lighting.

Uses and Applications of Hydroponics
Hydroponics has become a must in solving modern agriculture problems, it helps especially for the cities those do not have land. Hydroponic applications are so ubiquituous that they are found at households, schools, restaurants, or... commercial agricultural industrial scales.

In domestic, Hydroponics is also used for the production of vegetables (some examples of this are lettuce spinach kale tomatoes and chilies). For the same simple wick system or NFT (Nutrient Film Technique) you can grow your own vegetables on people and at a fraction of the cost.

Hydroponics is used as a medium in schools to teach students about science and entrepreneurship. In Industry on the other hand large scale hydroponic systems serve to satisfy the market demand for fresh vegetables and free from pesticides.

Due to its efficiency and sustainability advantages hydroponics will be one of the best we of the solutions to overcome the food security challenges tomorrow.
