What's Asthma? Write in your own words after getting knowledge from the lesson post.

Asthma is a respiratory condition that affects the airways. A lung kind of medical condition that brings difficulty in breathing. It is a chronic ailment in nature due to the inflammation that happens with the narrowing of the air passage. When this inflammation and narrowing of air passage happens, we observe symptoms like difficulty in breathing, wheezing, and chest tightening.

Over time, Asthma has been observed to occur with some triggers, which include triggers from allergens, especially from pollens, dust, leftover clothes, etc. It could also come from triggers like irritation with smoke and offensive odors ranking more in the list. Or triggers from respiratory conditions suffered over time.

Incidences of asthma are not necessarily terminal as there are cases when they're successfully managed without further occurrence. However, the use of medications and lifestyle could be effective in handling asthma. One thing any asthma patient should be mindful of is continuous monitoring of ailment to live a normal and active life. Asthma-prone patients should be aware of indulging in vigorous exercises.

We must have seen people suffer from asthma crises. However, these are caused by different factors, including triggers, age, and underlying ailments.

Types of Asthma

a. Allergen Asthma - this is an asthma trigger caused by exposure to allergens, pollens, and dusty and moldy places. When inhaled, they have a propensity to cause this type of discomfort

b. Non-Allergen Asthma - unlike what is mentioned above, this is caused by non-allergic reactions. Reactions from stress, exercise, and colds trigger this type of asthma.

c. Physical Activity Induced Asthma - this is caused by unstructured type of exercise. Exercises done in either dry or cold air.

d. Occupational Asthma - our workplace may be hazardous for us. Working in places with so much exposures to smaooe, chemicals, and dust may induce thus type of asthma.

e. Nocturnal Asthma - those types asthma that occurs at night due to bedroom type or sleeping position.

We still have other types that include; severe athsma and cough variant asthma.

How would you diagnose asthma? Any clinical investigation or assessment tests?

In doing this, we may be considering medical examination which comes with different tests, as well as physical therapy.

In medical examination, the medical practitioner is expected to take note of the different symptoms in the display, their frequency, as well as their triggers. Also noting family background is also an added advantage to guiding medical documentation and treatments.

In physical examination, the personnel should make do with the stethoscope instrument to enable him to listen to the lungs. Doing this should enable him to take into consideration abnormal sounds from wheezing.

In carrying out specific tests like Spirometry, it is ideal this is done to enable clear dictation of ailment without uncertainty. This is a procedure that allows the medical personnel to measure the inhale-exhale in a patient, and also the rate of exhale done per period. This test has, over time, tried to ascertain air passage movement in a patient.

Try to practice at least 3 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share images, gifs, or videos while practicing.

1.Chest Stretches
This was a little physical like every other physical therapy I participated in. This is one exercise that improves the chest and back muscles. I observed some sensations after exercise, as anticipated since the muscles have been stretched. The different styles used in this video came with varying muscle stretches.

2.Diaphragmatic Breathing Therapy
Sitting upright in that manner alone was an exercise of its own. Breathing out and pushing back with the arm on the belle help to improve us better. The lungs, posture position, and stability are most beneficial to this.

3.Box Breathing
This was another therapy I enjoyed doing. It was test fun for me. Inhaling all the oxygen I could for a few seconds, pulsed for another equal second, and then exhaled and pulsed, breathing for the same amount of seconds. Before now, I have always used this method to check my lung performance by holding on to breathing for a longer period.

Share your review after performing these exercises either on yourself, a healthy individual, or a patient.

It is obvious that after performing these breathing exercises, there were improvements in my breathing pattern. And no doubt that constant breathing exercise would bring about longevity in lung health.

Issues of breathlessness are a long-term goal as constant and structured exercises only improve the capacity of the lungs. As I mentioned above, physical therapy is one-way patients can work on and manage symptoms drastically.

I want to appreciate the author of this class. This was helpful and impactful.

I invite @dirapa, @crismenia, and @edgargonzalez

Observations

Task 1 (3/3)
You have shared a great knowledge about asthma, and it's causes, symptoms, types. Asthma is the reversible condition that can be cured either with medications and physical therapy too. I appreciate your effort.

Task 2 (2.7/3)
In the second question, you tell us about how you have to assess a patient by doing physical examination and history taking, performing specialized tests but you can also add investigations tests like check X ray, lung function test. Great.

Task 3 (3/4)
You try the box, diaphragmatic breathing and chest muscle (pectoralis major) stretch. I think you forget to add the 3rd exercise link please carefully review your posts before publishing. You did the box breathing and chest stretch in correct way. Remember always take steam or nebulization before performing exercises to relax your muscles & dislodge sputum that can excrete out easily. I appreciate your efforts.

Overall you made a great attempt to answer all the questions. I appreciate your efforts. But next time try to avoid the above written suggestions. Keep learning and try to implement your knowledge to the people suffering from any asthma as winter is the trigger of most the people suffering from asthma. Thank you.
