Which season does your region/country fall; and what are the best planting times and why are these times the best?

In Nigeria, we are been blessed with two sessions: the dry season and the rainy season the dry season is a season of harvesting, whereas the rainy season is a season of planting which is a season that typically lasts from April to October, which during such season farmers and anyone who wants to plant trees, crops and so on have the opportunity to plant and harvest different crops or trees.

The best planting times are the rainy season which is around April to June as it is the month when soil is more fertile and soft for planting. These are the best times as one wouldn't be going about watering trees as whatever tree that is planted will be watered by rain and it is less stressful unlike in the dry season where one would be looking for water to water trees.

Planting trees in the right plan is important for maximizing their environmental, economic, and social benefits while minimizing the potential negative impacts. Below are some of the reasons for planting trees in the right place.

• Soil Erosion Control:
  Trees stabilize the soil with their roots, which helps to reduce the risk of erosion and flooding in places that are closer to water or slopes.

• Environmental Balance:
  Planting trees can provide us with oxygen, regulate temperature, and also trees absorb carbon dioxide which means planting trees in the right place can promote (enhance) air quality, support local biodiversity, and conserve water in our environment.

• Minimize Infrastructure Damage:
  Planting trees in the right place like close to buildings, underground utilities, or sidewalks can help us to avoid structural damage.

• Energy Conversation:
  Planting trees at the right place close to the building can provide us with shade during the summer season and act as a windbreaker during the winter season, reducing energy costs.

• Degraded Lands: Trees can be planted in areas that are affected by desertification or deforestation which can help to restore the ecosystem of the land.

What kind of fertilizers or organic fertilizers should be used to prepare the soil before planting?

Before planting trees we must prepare the soil with the right nutrients to promote healthy growth of the trees. To this, organic fertilizers and soil amendments are the best because they improve soil structure, increase nutrient availability, and enhance microbial activity. Below are some of the recommended fertilizers and organic materials that we can use and prepare our soil.

Organic Fertilizers for Soil Preparation

Compost: This is very rich in nutrients since it improves soil structure, water retention, and drainage.

• Manure: We can use house manure or cow manure add it with organic matter and release them slowly on our soil.

• Poultry manure: This is very high in nitrogen but should be well-aged or composted to avoid root burning.

• Wood ash: This provides potassium of Phosphorus, which can promote strong root development most especially for new planting.

• Worm castings: This is good for boosting microbial life and improvements of soil texture.

Soil Preparation

• Text the soil before planting to know the nutrients and pH levels of the soil.

• Mix organic matter into the soil and wait for about a week before planting.

• Avoid over-fertilizers. Don't put too much fertilizers most especially nitrogen.

The correct method of using pesticides and fungicides effectively and safely in gardening requires an understanding of when and how they can be applied below are the best ways of applying them currently.

• Identification of the problem: This is the first thing we need to do before we can start to apply treatment.

• Choosing the right product: We need to select the right fungicide or pesticide that is specifically formulated for the pest or diseases that we are treating.

• Read labels carefully.
  We should always read labels for instructions thoroughly.

What home remedies can be used to protect plants for the roof or back garden?

For us to protect pants on the root or back garden, we can use several home remedies to keep them safe and healthy from pests, harsh.

• We Can Use Need Oil Spray: This is a natural insect-repellent oil that we can mix with water and spray on plant water.

• We Can Use Garlic and Chili Spray: Blend garlic and chili pepper mixed with water and can be sprayed on plants to repel pests.

• We can Use Banana Peels for fertilizers: We can bury banana peels around the base of plants to provide nutrients like Phosphorus and potassium to help the plants grow healthy and strong.

• We can Use Homemade insect traps: For an insect that does fly such as whiteflies or fruit flies we can place a small bowl filled with a mixture of water and add soap, sugar, etc to trap (catch) them.
