In Nigeria, Maize is always synonymous to the rainy season. We plant maize at the beginning of the rainy season which can range from March to June/July.

It takes 2-3 month after planting for it to be ripe for harvest depending on the breed. We love eating maize; sometimes it is boiled/cooked, or grilled or fried. A lot of people prefer to snack on it with coconut, others with pear. People who fry it love eating it with groundnut. Maize is a great food/snack in Nigeria. It can also be used in the production of pap which is taken with sugar and milk. Depending on the location example the southern part of Nigeria, maize can be cooked with vegetables and eaten.

Not only is maize food, it also has byproducts like corn flakes, pop corn etc.

Are you prepared for the corn season?
