Agriculture and Me

Over the previous week, working in agriculture has given me a sense of pride and delivered useful results. My week was brighter because I picked fresh green vegetables straight from my garden. Noticing the healthy growth of the green leaves reassured me that growing food at home is both satisfying and enjoyable.

After getting my vegetables home, I always made time to clean, cut and save them as seen in the picture. Although gardening is simple, it’s very fulfilling to cook food from your garden. No use of chemicals, no wasting time at the market and surety about the quality—simply enjoy clean and fresh organic food.

I turned the vegetables into a tasty soup that delicious enough to feed my family for a couple of days. It tasted very fresh and genuine, just like classic dishes that bring families together. It was rewarding for me to realize that I played a role in providing those foods. That was when agriculture met nutrition and the outcome was something tasty as well as healthy.

Besides enjoying my own produce, I also sold some to my neighbors and received compliments on how fresh the crops were. Even if the money wasn’t huge, it allowed me to get some kitchen supplies and showed me that farming leads to supporting businesses.

Working on the packaging and processing of vegetables helped me believe I was running a local agribusiness. I learned more about the process of farming at every point such as the soil, the sink and the soup pot.

To conclude, this week underlines the fact that, for many farmers, agriculture is about both work and way of life. It helps people grow, holds them up and gives them strength. Just a small piece of land and a little effort in farming allowed me to enjoy fresh food, earned some money and felt great satisfaction.
