Agriculture delivered both economic rewards and personal advantages to my daily routine during this recent week. Agriculture activities together with consuming agricultural produce have provided a monetary foundation for my life and simultaneously enhanced my well-being.

I generated a respectable amount of money by selling the fruits of my backyard vegetable garden following its harvest. During the previous weeks of tending to my okra pepper and spinach plants I reached significant harvests this week. When I brought the fresh vegetables to the market I found people eagerly purchased them. People showed immediate interest in my fresh organic vegetables because of their quality. I achieved enough profit through selling for two days to pay personal bills and make an additional gain on the side. Learning through this process I rediscovered the satisfaction that comes from directly getting involved with farming at any size level.

Agriculture supported my family through a combination of both sales and household consumption. For most of the week we didn't need to purchase vegetables at market since we had an ample supply from our garden. We managed to save money by accessing fresh healthy food without extra expenses. Food preparation was more rewarding when we made vegetable soup followed by jollof rice with pepper and okra sauce and steamed spinach since everything came from working the land ourselves. Self-produced food consumption allows you to experience a special sense of accomplishment.

Along with a neighbor I dedicated this week to transform cassava into garri. This lengthy process required many steps including the peeling and washing of vegetables before grating and fermentation until frying was complete yet proved fulfilling over extended work periods. I am pleased with the outcome of the garri which I intend to package for market sale during the upcoming week. Cassava processing through garri production leads to both value enhancement for the crop and opens doors for income generation and extended food preservation.

This week has revealed that agriculture provides food and generates earning potential while bringing good health along with feelings of national pride. My life remains deeply connected to agriculture because I engage in the selling of vegetables as well as consume homegrown produce and transform crops such as cassava. The upcoming weeks will bring more involvement that I eagerly anticipate despite my current appreciation of these advantages.
