Arrays of Agricultural topics 👉Choose-Write-Post#20
I can see myself there, amongst the spicy red of chillies and the rich purple of the onions, the visible and very direct impact and value of agriculture, entering my life personally, after all, this week of all weeks.
Agriculture is not abstract anymore this week, it was a real, delectable thing that made me produce unimaginable scents and leave my family with satisfying meals on their plates. My major exercise in the world of agriculture this week involved the making of a filling stew as one of my household staples. And what a stew it turned out to be due to fresh, vivid produce which I had gotten myself right on the market you can see in the pictures.
The initial destination of course was that of the main attraction: the tomatoes. Mounds of juicy, red tomatoes, full of colour, were telling me that I would have a delicious stew with a rich base. I carefully selected the sturdiest ones and was picturing the sweet and tart flavors they would bring. Then, the eyes were caught by the good variety of peppers. Whether it was the long and thin red chillies that promised a light burning taste to those smaller and stronger ones to give it that Nigerian bite, I had my choice.
The picture shows the total abundance absolutely accurately, and it is not hard to pick the right compromise between hot and taste.
And of course all stews are eaten with onions. The bulbs which were of large size, reddish-purple in color, and were heaped together in a large black basin played a vital role. They had a pungent smell even in the market, which promised great depth of taste when they would be sauteed to the golden perfection.
In the homeland, conversions of such raw farming treasures into a comforting meal started. The chopping and cutting rhythm of the knifes as I chopped the tomatoes, the hissing sound of onions being fried in the hot oil, the richness of colour as the mixture of peppers broke besides the pot were all instances of pure delight, directly facilitated by the great agriculture. The aroma that my kitchen was filled with was mind boggling, a foretaste of the gustatory experience in the making.
There is more to the palatable delight, as there is a strong feeling of self-satisfaction given by the knowledge that I know my food source. It goes right back to the earth and in the hands of the farmers and the market vendors straight to my table. This week, when I was preparing a large portion of the sticky, red stew in the ladle, I greatly enjoyed the whole chain of farming. It was not all about providing food to my family but it was to cultivate and nourish my family with fresh and wholesome foods.
Essentially, these fresh vegetables were the main ingredient of my cooking activities during this week. It furnished the ingredients, gave me the idea of the meal and lastly added warms and flavour to my house. The market, which is shown in photos, is not simply a trading point, but it is an active center in which the products of agriculture introduced are shared between the producers and the consumers that engage in a relationship of sustenance and social relating. And I thank God of that.
