Animal Activities #08 | Lessons from the story of the Chicken.

A long time ago in the land of the animals dwelt a community of peaceful animals and the elephant was their leader. The elephant big and majestic was known for his elegance and hence was made the king of the animals.
The animals dwelt in peace and lived a communal life. Everyone eat and drank together. They always gather from time to time to hold festivals and celebrate with each other. Every animal in the animal kingdom was always enthusiastic to be a part of this gatherings as they helped to foster a family spirit in the land.
Every animal seemed enthusiastic about the celebrations and gatherings except the Chicken. It always had it own agenda and excuses on why it won’t be a part of the communal gatherings.

As time went on, a disease struck the land and the animals were dying off in their numbers. The entire animal kingdom was thrown into chaos as everyone was running helter-skelter to find a solution to the problem in the land.
As usual everyone seemed concerned except the chicken. Then one fateful day, the elephant king of the animals called a meeting and demanded that all the animals much be present for the meeting. They needed to find a solution to the dearth besieging the land.
Every animal was headed to the kings palace on the way, the tortoise met the chicken who was headed to a different route. He asked the chicken why he isn’t coming for the general meeting and the chicken said that he can’t come that whatever they decide in the meeting is ok by him.
On reaching the meeting venue, the animals began to deliberate on their situation and a way out. They consulted the gods of their land who said that they need to appease the gods for the dearth to be taken away from the land and a sacrifice has to be made.

The question now is which of the animals would be used for the sacrifice. No one was willing to volunteer. Then the tortoise, said that the chicken was going to be used. And when he was asked why, he said that the chicken said that whatever they decide in the meeting was ok by him.
The entire animal kingdom decided that the chicken was going to be used for the sacrifice and that became a norm in the land. This is the reason why the chicken is always used for sacrifice till today.
The moral of the lesson is to avoid living an individualistic life. No man is an island. Learn to relate with others, we all need each other to survive for you never know who may be the answer to that pressing need or challenge. The chicken became an object of sacrifice because of its individualistic lifestyle.

What didactic story, I have personally learned a lot from this post living an individualistic life is not always good as it comes with bad reparcursion as we have seen in the case of the chicken he was now used as a sacrifice to save all. Interesting story you've got here. I now understand better why the chicken is always slaughtered because whatever the decision is, the chicken will always be ok with it. No man is an island to himself.
