Agricultural Story #13
Welcome to an agricultural story. Agriculture is a very important part of our existence and its benefits cannot be over emphasized. The practice of agriculture has led to advancement in different area of our lives and have endlessly provided food for man to eat.
I’ve come to fall in love with some agricultural produce this season as some of them have become part of my daily living and have been beneficial to me in the kitchen which right now is my favorite room.
Well yes and one of those produce is tomatoes. Well, its redness in colour is a pointer to how it adds color to our lives and our food.
Tomatoes come in very handy in our daily cooking. It’s classified as a fruit and a vegetable. Agriculturally it is classified under fruits known as berries while in the culinary world, it’s classified under vegetables because it’s used in making savory dishes unlike other sweet fruits.
In cooking it’s also use in the sautéing of food, used in cooking stew or added as garnishing for foods. That’s why it’s under vegetables classifications on our every day life’s but botanically, it’s a fruit.
Well, If I told you that I could use tomatoes in almost all my dishes aside soups would you be suprises. One of my friends saw me slicing tomatoes on my jollof beans and she was like what are you doing?

I said am adding the fresh tomatoes on the beans as garnishing. She could not believe her eyes. Am like well, you should have a taste of this. It may sound a little weird to you but using fresh tomatoes as garnishing to already cooked foods like jollof beans, jollof rice, yam porridge or any form of porridge actually tastes great.
Well, it does to me cos of my love for tomatoes. I use it to cook noodles, rice, beans, stews, yam etc and the list goes on and on. But it’s better when you leave it fresh. For example, you can finished cooking your noodles and toward the end, pour in your sliced Tomatoes and onions, stir them and bring it down almost immediately.
The crunchy and savory flavor is great. I see people chew tomatoes outrightly, while I may not have down that, but I think it almost the same as that when you use it as garnishing in your foods.
Well, the essence of all this talking is to get you to try and use fresh tomatoes on your different meals and you wouldnt stop eating it. It’s interesting believe me. Meanwhile give it a try.
