Farmers make use of fertilizer to grow their farm products because it helps the soil to improve, allowing plants to produce abundantly, benefiting the farmers. Today, I would like to discuss the above topic with the title. Basic knowledge in agriculture #23.

Talk about the Roles of Fertilizers and Pesticide in Agriculture.

We have different types of fertilizer that are natural and artificial, depending on the farmer's choice. Fertilizer play an important role in plant growth and ensure that the plant receives the necessary nutrients.

Nitrogen, potassium, and other substances in the fertilizer enable the plant to develop and improve. Fertilizer can also increase plant yield by ensuring that the plants have full access to nutrients, improving overall health.

Meanwhile, pesticides are created to fight or control pests like fungi and weeds. These pests can damage the plants to the extent that it reduces the turnover. Applying pesticides at the right time increases the productivity of the farm products

Another important aspect is that pesticides help control the weeds that do not allow the crops to grow. Pesticides work positively by eliminating the weeds that compete for the same nutrients or water with the crops.

Are there local fertilizers and how effective are they.

There are different ways of local fertilizers which farmers apply to the land they cultivate with aim to plant different crops. Local fertilizers are very effective in the productivity of a crop. Rural farmers commonly use animal manure as a fertilizer because the nutrients are so rich that once applied, it can give maximum production. They are organic fertilizers that farmers apply to their garden to prevent rodents and other domestic animals from destroying or eating the crops. The most commonly used livestock fertilizers are chicken manure, rabbit, goat, and cow. When applied appropriately, it can give the farmers good results.

Additionally, horse manure contains nitrogen which helps the farmers in so many ways because it's powerful to work against weeds. Once applied, it assists the farmers by nurturing their plants such as corn 🌽, potatoes, and more for the benefits of the farmers.

Is there any traditional way of killing pests on crops and how effective is it without causing harm to the plant

In the olden days, our forefathers used traditional methods to protect their crops from diseases. In fact, these methods worked perfectly to safeguard the crops. Some of these traditional method for killing pest are discuss below

• Neem oil is extracted from neem seeds, which protects our crops against pests. It's a natural process that farmers use to control weeds and fungal infections.

• Mixing garlic with pepper prevents insects from destroying the crops. It serves as a natural remedy when applied to the plants with homemade spray to hinder insects from multiplying.

• Locally made fungicidal treatments work effectively against diseases. Some farmers use local baking soda to treat these stubborn diseases. It is effective in combating these infections with the hope of totally eradicating fungal infections.

• Lastly, crop rotation is practiced by some farmers to transfer crops to different areas to prevent pest problems. This often occurs annually to disrupt the life cycle of infections.

I really appreciate the organizer for organizing this knowledgeable contest and I hope we are to learn from other idea. I would like to invite @uzma4882, @missyleo and @dave-hanny to participate in this contest.

The local fertilizers like the horse dump you mentioned is a good manure for crops and it improves soil fertility. It's still very much in use and it's quite effective too.
