"Planting"
Greetings everyone, welcome to my blog.
Yes, I am a farmer. Farming has always been part of my life. I started farming when I was a kid. My mum would take me and my brother along with her anytime she is going to the farm. Even though we didn't do much on the farm at that time because we were still kids, at least we helped my mum in one way or the other on the farm.
Nigeria, as a whole, is a blessed country with fertile land. My family has many lands for farming even in the area where I live in Aba Abia State. They have crops like cassava, maize, cucumber, etc and also, they have land where they do farming. People who have small spaces in their backyards utilize the space by planting vegetables like waterleaf, bitter leaf, curry leaf, scent leaf, and others.
In my area, we have many types of crops like tomato, maize, cassava, melon, etc, but the most commonly planted crops in my area are maize, cassava, and some vegetables like pumpkin leaf.
Their planting method
🔥How to plant maize
To plant maize, you have to get your dry maize, clear your farmland, cultivate the farmland then plant the maize. You can put one, two, or three seeds in one hip, depending on your choice. After some days, the seed will germinate. If the land is fertile enough, it will not require extra manure but if not fertile, you will add manure to the maize. After two months of planting, you will harvest the maize.
🔥How to plant cassava
Cassava is an annual crop. To plant cassava, cut the stem bit by bit and plant it in your cleared farmland. If it germinates, add manure if it's needed. Harvest your cassava after one year.
🔥How to plant pumpkin leaf
To plant pumpkin leaf, you will get the pumpkin seed. If not dried, you will dry the seed then make a nursery bed and bud it. When it germinates, you can transfer it to a permanent place where it will grow fully.
The soil fertility in my area is very low. Majority of the farmland in my area requires extra manure before anything you plant will come out well if not, your crops will not do well and you will end up losing everything.
In Nigeria, the winter period is our rainy season. Crops like maize, cucumber, tomatoes, garden egg, pepper, cassava and vegetables like water leaf, pumpkin leaf etc are grown during this season. These crops and vegetables are perfect for the rainy season as they thrive in moist soil and cooler temperatures for them to do well.
I invite @wizzyboy3, @crismenia , and @okere-blessing to participate in this contest with me.
