On this week's show, I had a great opportunity to interact with @sergeyk from Ukraine. He is a programing teacher and a blogger as well who loves coffee. For the past 3 weeks has has been running one of the teaching team programming courses in the blog. Join me as I find out more details about him

: Hello Sergeyk, welcome to my show. How would you describe yourself to everyone in the community?

🔶Sergeyk: I’m Serhiy, almost 50 years old, a good-natured dreamer and mathematician. Why a mathematician? Because during my studies to become a math and computer science teacher, I grew more fond of mathematics. Computers, well, that’s a given. But now computers no longer carry that sense of mystery or magic—they’re as common as paper or pencils, just a tool for work.

: How do you balance your offline responsibilities with your teaching activity on Steemit as a professor?

🔶Sergeyk: In the summer, my young son stayed with me in the village, and I didn’t log into Steemit at all, though by that time, I had installed the mobile app on my phone. But publishing posts from a phone is something incredible for me))) It will be a miracle when that happens. For me, a phone isn’t a full replacement for a computer—I don’t even like laptops. Yet during SEC20, I was amazed at how many users create masterpieces from their phones. I remember seeing teacher/student group setups in the Crypto Academy a few years ago.

I even went through some achievements because that was required, though I didn’t quite fit the criteria. But when autumn came and I joined SEC20, it really took up a lot of time, especially the first week, which was intense. I’ve already mentioned avoiding phones)))—but here, I found the best courses for myself at the time: the Flutter Framework by @mohammadfaisal. Of course, other courses are interesting too, like those from the Crypto Academy. Every time I want to do their homework, but it never works out—the topic is unfamiliar to me, I need to study more, and a week is too short. Graphic design as well… and those with a lot of words—that’s not for me.

: How long have you been on Steemit, and how has it positively affected you through blogging?

🔶Sergeyk: In a way, I’ve been on Steemit from the very beginning. When I got the internet, I was curious about how to make money from it—not enough to live on, just the idea of earning a few cents, essentially from thin air. Back then, before the crypto era, there were email lists where you could “earn” fractions of a cent by clicking ads, from $0.001 to $0.005. It fascinated me as a miracle—money from nowhere.

I probably saw an article about Steemit a few months before it launched. I remember the first posts about a programmer’s morning and the large sum under that post—of course, it’s attractive.
And as soon as Steemit was launched, there was an announcement about the Russian-language fork of it, GOLOS, and since I don’t speak English fluently, I was there for some time.

So, my first posts here were published six years ago, and my only power down was for 12 STEEM.

: How far do you think you can go on Steemit?

🔶Sergeyk: I’d say I could grow to become a whale))) but that’s still far off, if it’s even possible. It was probably easier at the very beginning, but becoming an orca is entirely realistic—maybe in a year or two.

: How is your programming course on Steem going? Do you consider this initiative useful?

🔶Sergeyk: The idea of evergreen content has always attracted me. That’s exactly the kind of content I want to create. I’m always put off by topics like “what I bought at the store today,” like dairygame, for example. It’s only interesting to a small circle of friends or followers, and only for a short time. Evergreen content, however, is timeless—it remains relevant for one, two, or three years.

I’ve wanted to do this for a long time (create notes from my lessons) to give to my students if needed, so they could visit and read them. Yes, I consider this very useful. After SEC, there will be SLC from season 21.

: What programming languages do you know, and how do you use them to develop on Steem?

🔶Sergeyk: I’m, so to speak, a theoretical programmer. I’m more interested in programming from an academic point of view—teaching it. Of course, I’d like to understand Steem from the inside to create something of my own, but for now, it’s all Greek to me. When I was in school, I studied Basic—it was a must, but Pascal seemed more appealing.

I even read about it and bought books. Now those languages are a thing of the past. But last year, I was surprised when a student from France, whom I was helping, was studying Pascal. It amazed me—why teach such an old language in advanced France? The only explanation is to maintain existing software, likely written in Pascal/Delphi.
At university, I studied C/C++. When I worked as a software engineer, I wrote billing software for a telephone company. Then, programs started being centralized and pushed down, and I switched to maintaining them.

I had to leave that company when mobile communication replaced traditional telephony. I worked as a math teacher. For development on Steem?… Only for writing posts,) I don’t have the skills to code for Steem at this level..

: A few months ago, you wrote several posts about electronics. Have you worked on any electronics projects? If yes, what were they?

🔶Sergeyk: I didn’t really get into electronics, that’s more of a legacy from my father, who has long since passed. He was probably interested in electronics back in the 1960s when TVs started appearing and needed repairs, and he would repair them. Then in the 1990s, computers started to appear, which caught my interest. So, my interest in electronics is an echo of my father’s interest.

There’s a lot of old electronics literature and parts at home. Of course, it’s all too outdated now, but projects like Arduino have grown out of that. Yes, I’ve seen your blog, I glanced through past seasons—saw what I had missed))) I was especially struck by a girl with a manicure holding a soldering iron and a transformer in her hands. I often peek into other communities, like those from Africa or Latin America, I’m interested in their culture, plants—it’s like a different planet.

: Do you think you could continue creating content on electronics?

🔶Sergeyk: No, I wouldn’t be able to create content, though I would gladly study it. To create content, you need to be really knowledgeable in the field.

: If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?

🔶Sergeyk: As a child, I read many books about America, specifically about its indigenous peoples, who suffered from the arrival of foreigners on their land. And I imagined a boat teleporting from the future and destroying Columbus’s ships. But history is unlikely to change—if it wasn’t Columbus, it would have been someone else.
In light of the current war, I’d get rid of Putin. I think that’s the answer everyone would give to this question.

: How would you evaluate the developer community on Steemit? What are your favorite Steem tools?

🔶Sergeyk: I don’t know much about that…

: How has the war in your country affected you and your family?

🔶Sergeyk: I don’t live in a big city, but even we had a missile tail stuck in the ground nearby, and several houses were damaged. Shaheds often fly over at night—they’re drones with wings and a motor, people call them mopeds because they sound like one.

At the start of the war, in the first week, the enemy almost reached our towns—we even dropped everything and moved to another city for a while, staying in a stranger’s apartment. But the rapid advance of the enemy was halted in the first few days, and then they even retreated a bit.

But the children still don’t go to school, they stay home and study online. It’s hard to gain knowledge this way, and there’s no live communication with peers. Every day, dozens of missiles hit cities…

: What has been your most enjoyable moment on Steemit in recent months, and what was the least enjoyable?

🔶Sergeyk: The most enjoyable—discovering SEC20 for myself, of course. I remember trying to join them a few years ago, in the version they had at the time, but I think my reputation level didn’t allow me. I had been registered for five years by then and had gone through different Achievements in the Newcomers Community, reaching level 4, I think. It was educational—who knows, maybe it’s better to complete them?

So, the fact that there are almost no requirements for SEC now is very good. And this participation is enjoyable in two ways. I’m not only teaching my own courses, but I’m also participating in others, and it takes a lot of time. But I have the spare time right now for Steemit.

: What annoys you the most on Steemit?

🔶Sergeyk: Highly rated posts that can be written in just 5-10 minutes and undervalued posts that require a lot of time to write. Although the problem is more in my perception, I regard Steemit more as a magazine or as a book that can be saved and reread, meaning to be used. It turns out that Steem is like a newspaper, where news quickly changes one another. But that’s our news-informational modern world..

: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

🔶Sergeyk: Sometimes I read books, sometimes I watch movies. When my school friend comes from another city, we cook something on the stove or over an open fire and have intellectual conversations. Last year, I bought myself a bicycle since I hadn’t had one for many years since childhood—so I enjoy cycling. I’m also very interested in woodworking, but it’s still in the planning stage.

I’m gradually collecting tools for it, and you need a lot of tools. It won’t be a profession, more like a hobby. I’ll make some wooden items and enjoy the pleasant smell of wood shavings. But for that, I need to accumulate tools and build a workshop..

: How many hours a week do you spend on Steemit on average?

🔶Sergeyk: Now, because of the teaching courses, it’s a lot. For example, in the summer, I wasn’t here at all. So, it’s hard to calculate the average—and I say that as a mathematician. Most of my work is done on the computer, where it’s easy to switch to a Steemit tab for a few minutes… and then get stuck in the comments for an hour.

: Who would you recommend I interview next, and why?

🔶Sergeyk: Many YouTube bloggers create videos where they interview themselves; modern technologies make it easy to do such editing. Have you ever had an interview with yourself? Let your subscribers ask you questions in the comments!

: I am working on the the edition where I would feature myself on the interview showcase. Perhaps users can drop their questions for me here on the comment section, say 3 to 5 questions each user, then I would choose depending on how many questions comes in, once you drop, you can tag other users in your comment to also drop their questions. : What is your favorite music?

🔶Sergeyk: That’s in the past. Back when I was a student or during my early working years, music helped. But now it distracts me. Among my favorites are Ace Of Base, C.C. Catch, Modern Talking, Madonna, 2 Unlimited, Ice MC, Sandra, Sabrina… Over time, I collected a large collection of music, and it’s good that modern hard drives can store a lot of information. Sometimes I listen to Paul Mauriat on YouTube—it’s easier to access music online now, ever since the internet appeared..

: Do you have any message for the Steemit team?

🔶Sergeyk: Where have the TRX rewards gone? They should either be returned or removed from the interface, or perhaps replaced with $PUSS. Meme coins are better than TRX, which are no longer there.

: Interesting suggestions. I think @ety001 has updated us last night about the removal of the TRX feature. As for the $PUSS meme coin, I think It might be interesting to see if @rme could collaborate with the Steemit team to achieve this if it's possible. But until then, let's watch if it would happen.
