One thing I love to note when visiting schools is the architectural structures of their buildings. I commend the architects, engineers, and all others involved in creating these impressive designs. Sometimes, I wish they would involve students from related fields in the construction process to enhance their practical experience.

You may have seen photos of the University of Uyo that look different from this one. Don't be confused; that’s why I mentioned the permanent site. There are other campuses located in the heart of the city, but this one is the main campus where all other faculties will be based. Engineering and Science were among the first faculties to move to the permanent site.

Join me as I guide you around the campus, starting from the school gate to the notable structures. Once you arrive in Uyo, the city's road network is excellent, ensuring you reach the school gate from the airport in just a couple of hours.

Here is the school gate, which is still under construction. I spent a year attending this school without realizing what this structure represented, but after taking a closer look years later, I finally saw that it resembled an open book. This gate serves as the entrance to the school, and the distance from the gate to the main building is about 20 to 30 minutes on foot, or 5 to 10 minutes by vehicle, depending on your speed.

Tricycles are the primary mode of transport for students traveling from the school gate to their respective faculties, while shuttle buses operate between the main campus and Town Camp. To enter the school gate without issues, simply dress appropriately and avoid carrying any harmful tools or weapons; you'll need to sign in if you need to work with tools on campus.

Some students prefer to walk when they have an 8 a.m. class; the boarding area can get overcrowded as many people try to board with only a limited number of vehicles. The fare remains the same regardless of your destination on campus.

The school's road network is circular, connecting all the structures. As you enter from the left, you will see the Administrative Block, which is the cover photo of this page featuring the large university logo. The next building nearby is the UniUyo Microfinance Bank, where we make payments for our departmental and faculty dues. As a visitor, locating any building is straightforward; just tell the driver the name, and they'll drop you off there.

You cannot tour the school without encountering this statue and visiting the engineering faculty. If you take a closer look, you’ll notice that the statue is wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and has spanners and tools in its pockets. This symbolizes that you are in the engineering faculty. The statue supports a globe, signifying that engineers are the pillars of the world.

Let’s take a quick tour of the faculty so you can see how beautiful it is. As an engineering student, I am proud to represent this field. This image captures a view of the statue from the engineering faculty workshop through a beautifully carved wall.

This is the faculty building that houses all the engineering offices. You'll easily find the bursary office, the dean's office, faculty officers' offices, department heads (HODs) of different departments, and many more. Additionally, the faculty library is located here, filled with numerous engineering materials you may need. There are also classroom blocks and a dedicated drawing studio for engineering assignments.

I had to include this picture because if you've come across photos of graduating engineering students or those defending their projects, you'd often see them using this area as a backdrop. The sculpture features a gear, a spanner, and supporting metal, which you won’t find easily anywhere else but in the engineering faculty. This location also serves as a parking space for faculty staff and visitors.

This is one of the oldest buildings in the faculty of engineering, where many events are held. It has a good capacity for attendees. It is known as ELT(Engineering Lecture Theatre) and is also called Tetfund by the students. The structure is a very beautiful one with a good ventilation system.

Trying to get off engineering, you would notice the abandoned plane here; it should be one of the projects made by students. If you get into the workshop, you will find similar projects like chopper, plane, and eclectic tricycle, which were done by students. I prefer the practical aspects, but you can't get to the practicals of it without understanding the theoretical aspect; once In a while, we should always put our theories into practice.

Just stepping out of the faculty of engineering, you will notice a calm and environment-friendly structure with cool trees, that the modern library. It has a lot of books and computers and truly it is worth the "modern" tag. On entry, you'll be scanned properly, but not with the aid of security, just a modern thing. The internal aspect is very neat and calm. I wish I was able to take pictures of it, but we are not allowed to.

This is a newly constructed building in the Department of Computer Science, which has lots of computers. This is where any Computer Examination is being carried out because of its large capacity and good modern computer equipment with uninterrupted network supply. It is a very functional building; even after the Examination was done, I noticed that it is used as a computer training center for some entrepreneurship courses.

Here is the faculty of Environmental Studies, it is located Northwest of the faculty of engineering and it has a good landmass and environment, this faculty has a lot of practical courses and departments like Architecture, building, estate management, and so on

I love their works because of how creative most of them are in this field. I recently saw some other students studying the topography of the land and also taking notes of other works, I just loved how practical the course is.

Are you a football lover? The school got you covered; this is a football field in my school, which is just close to the environmental science faculty. It has a very neat green field, and it is fondly called "sun city" by students due to the immense heat in this part. The pitch is still under construction as stands have not been introduced yet.

To note, many buildings are still under construction; this is a building in the art that I was able to capture from the New Engineering building; they moved part of the faculty of art to the main campus. Some faculties that I have yet to explore are available on campus like;

  • Faculty of Science
  • Faculty of Law
  • Faculty of Agriculture

I will be taking a full tour of these faculties, which I will also make a post of.
