When we examine the ancient cities of Turkey, we see that they all consist of separate stories. We read about how each region was founded, who lived, which arts stood out, and which states fought each other for that region. The ancient city of Termessos, which I will talk about today, has important features that distinguish it from others. Now let's look at these features together.

Türkiye'nin antik kentlerini incelediğimizde hepsinin ayrı ayrı hikayelerden oluştuğunu görüyoruz. Her bir bölgenin nasıl kurulduğu, kimlerin yaşadığı, hangi sanatların öne çıktığı ve o bölge için hangi devletlerin birbirleriyle savaştığını okuyoruz. Bugün bahsedeceğim Termessos Antik kenti diğerlerinden ayıran önemli özellikleri var. Şimdi bu özelliklere gelin birlikte bakalım.

Located on the Korkuteli road of Antalya, about 40 minutes away from the city center, this independence-loving city is one of the best preserved cities in Turkey. In some sources, it is known that the name of this place is Güllük Mountain. This city, which is thought to have been founded by the Solyms, descended from the Luwians, one of the very ancient peoples in Anatolia, was founded on a very high mountain slope.

Antalya'nın Korkuteli yolu üzerinde, şehir merkezinden yaklaşık 40 dakikalık bir uzaklıkta yer alan bu bağımsızlığa düşkün olan kent, Türkiye'de en iyi korunmuş şehirlerinden biri olduğunu söyleyebilirim. Bazı kaynaklar da buranın adının Güllük dağı olarak geçtiği biliniyor. Anadolu'daki çok eski halklardan biri olan Luviler soyundan gelen Solymlerler tarafından kurulduğu düşünülen bu kent, Çok yüksek dağ yamacına kurulmuştur.

The most important feature of the ancient city is that Alexander the Great, who conquered many lands in history, wanted to come here and take it; It was the people of Termessos that built a wise and very strong defense mechanism to protect their city and not surrender their city. It has been engraved in our memories as the only region in history that Alexander the Great could not besiege.

When you enter the city, you realize that it was built in a high valley. Although some of the building blocks that have survived until today are damaged, you realize that they were made with a solid workmanship and the city is very well preserved. There is an ancient theater at the top of the city, which has separate sections. Next to the theater, there are cisterns with Five Sections, which caught my attention. These cisterns are underground water tanks used by the people of Termessos to collect rain water at that time.

Şehrin içine girdiğinizde yüksek bir vadide kurulduğunu anlıyorsunuz. Günümüze kadar gelmiş yapı taşlarının bazıları hasar görse de sağlam bir işçilikle yapıldığını ve şehrin çok güzel korunduğunu fark ediyorsunuz. Ayrı bölümleri olan kentin en tepesinde antik bir tiyatro bulunuyor. Tiyatronun yanı başında benim çok ilgimi çeken Beş Bölmeli sarnıçlar var. Bu sarnıçlar, o dönemde Termessoslular tarafından yağmur sularını biriktirmeye yarayan yer altı su depolarıdır.

Since it was built on a very high mountain slope, they put forward a very good idea creativity, which was thought at that time, in order not to experience water shortages in a region like Antalya, especially in summer. They covered the front of these underground water tanks, consisting of five compartments, with iron bars. The depths of these underground waters reach about 15 meters. Around these five chambered cisterns lined up side by side, you also come across the founding houses of those who lived at that time. In addition, the agora market place and the stones of the rock tombs were set up right next to these cisterns.

While touring the city, you drive through narrow dirt roads with the chirping of birds and the fragrant smell of the forest. There are large and small stone particles in some parts of the dirt road. On some roads, you can see that the bushes hanging from the tree branches are closing in front of you. From every hill you climb, you can watch the surroundings from a bird's eye view and take lots of pictures. You always go uphill to visit the city. After each slope, you will be greeted by structures and ruins of different cultures and art.

Şehri gezerken dar toprak yollardan, kuş cıvıltıları ve mis gibi kokan orman kokusuyla ilerliyorsunuz. Toprak yolun bazı bölümlerinde irili ufaklı taş parçacıkları var. Bazı yollara da ağaç dallarından sarkan çalıların önünüzü kapattığını da görebilirsiniz. Çıktığınız her tepeden kuşbakışı etrafı izleyebilir bol bol resim de çekebilirsiniz. Kenti gezmek için sürekli olarak yokuşa doğru çıkıyorsunuz. Her yokuşun ardından sizleri bambaşka kültürler ve sanata dair yapılan yapılar ve kalıntılar karşılıyor.

There are many temples built in the name of heroes in the city. They also set up a watchtower to protect the city against enemies. They have built in special structures that are planned for various events. As you see these structures, you are moving towards the past while walking around the city.

Kentin içinde kahramanlar adına yapılmış, bir çok tapınak var. Şehri düşmanlara karşı korumak için bir de gözetleme evi kurmuşlar. Çeşitlik etkinlikler için planlanmış olan özel yapılarda inşa etmişler. Bu yapıları gördükçe şehrin içinde gezerken geçmiş zamana doğru hareket ediyorsunuz.
