Materials

  1. Egg Tray Carton
  2. Water
  3. Glue
  4. Acrylic Paint
  5. Paint Brush
  6. Hair Blower
  7. Ice Cream Container

Procedures

1F50F4C7-59D5-4DDD-B172-BA777E47065E.jpegHere, I completely torn all the egg trays into pieces. I also used a plate to put all these pieces together neatly. It is very important to have a neat and clean workspace.

B233D64A-78C2-47FB-BEEA-C76632965C38.jpeg Then, I transferred these pieces of torn carton into the mixture of water and glue.

98394CF9-E22B-4469-903F-5AD35A6B8FEF.jpeg Then, I mold it into a round object that resembles like an eyeball.

FC805C22-10EE-4AD5-A8A3-D9843C6A1D67.jpegThen, I used a blow dryer to quickly dry this round object. I think it will take 24 hours to completely dry this object by air-drying method.

E7C9FD46-9A42-46F1-B6E4-77FA12BCB656.jpegThen, I painted using the white acrylic paint to represent the sclera.

E73DB732-F14B-4FE5-86C7-331FEFE7081D.jpegI wanted this eye model to have blue eyes, so after drying the white paint, I proceeded with the blue acrylic paint.

077BAC85-E95C-48E7-8B3E-135A2BE4B1B2.jpegThen I painted the pupil and the borders of the cornea blue to have a shading effect.

AD38395F-5BF8-4402-B10E-309F0355D447.jpegI also added white and yellow paint for highlights and aesthetic effects.

Why I Made a 3D Eye Model

In the Philippines, particularly in the Department of Education, we celebrate the month of September as Science and Math Month. So, I was obviously inspired by that. As a teacher, I know the importance of using a model in a class discussion. It will help the students to picture out the real object and it also improved students’ engagement.

I know that when you buy a eye model in the market, it costs alot. So, this is an alternative way of making the model. The egg tray is usually given for free if you buy 12 eggs, so that means this project/model is a good replacement for that expensive model.

What I Learned in this Contest

We can make creations that are inexpensive but still very useful if we are resourceful, creative and very imaginative! We can make projects that are very useful in our daily lives if we know how to maximize the available resources and make ways to recycle.
