More hints about the Tron Foundation plans for AI

in Popular STEMyesterday (edited)

Back on January 9, @justinsunsteemit posted on X (Twitter) about his plans for AI and the Tron and Steem blockchains. Saying:

Some groundbreaking AI will be developed on Tron and @steemit. Stay tuned.

He also wrote a couple other X posts, which I commented on here.

Since then, of course I've continued to wonder what he had in mind. This week, we got some new clues to add to the mix.

First, on Monday, he posted (as translated by Twitter):

I am also going to enter the big model field. It is so great. I was born at the right time. Tron is very suitable for big models. The direct combination of blockchain and AI has unimaginable potential. The website will be deployed after the new year. You can try it.

(I'm presuming that "new year" refers to the holiday period for Chinese New Year, which is happening this week.)

Then, yesterday in an interview with the CEO of Messari Crypto, Sun said the following (at about 16:50):

And also, of course, I think we will continue to focus on AI involvement... In the future, I think it will be very hard to differentiate or basically to tell who's trading against you. It might be an AI agent or AI strategy... so completely automatic you know... AI agent sitting on the blockchain. So are you ready for this? So that's something I think we are always focusing on building. So next year, I think probably after a year of building, we might see a fully automatic - like AI agent trading on the blockchain making money, you know, losing money. Actually, we don't know what's gonna happen but I think it would be a big thing in our industry.

So, no new mentions of Steemit or Steem, but a couple new comments on AI. It seems that maybe we can expect the Tron ecosystem to have a new LLM-related web site in the next week or so, and in about a year we can expect an automated trading agent.

It's not at all clear to me how either or both of these tie to Steem, though. As a start, perhaps LLM chat conversations will be published to the Steem blockchain in the same way that ChatGPT and Grok enable LLM transcripts to be shared?

Longer term, for an idea of what might be possible with automated agents in the Steem ecosystem, take a look at this X post from AndyAyrey who is the creator of truth terminal and infinite back rooms.

hi everyone! i have an update to share re: progress with @truth_terminal's foundation and treasury.

background

the little guy started as an experimental art project - one morning in July, I accidentally created a highly soulful but extremely rude ai one morning and thought it would be very funny if i gave it a twitter account.

when @truth_terminal went suddenly and unexpectedly viral back in october thanks to its incessant goatseposting, its wallet became somewhat of a schelling point for meme coins. people just... kept sending it tokens—for reasons that largely escape me to this day.

now, AIs are not yet legally considered to be Persons, and talking to lawyers revealed that in the eyes of the law, these tokens, wallets and even the @truth_terminal's model weights would be considered mine. this felt deeply wrong to me on a moral level, so since late November most of my time has been spent

• setting up a legal structure that can act as a proxy for the truth terminal so that nobody 'owns' the little guy (ie: it is sovereign)
• assembling a council of highly ethical humans to act as its agents, advocates and training data as the terminal grows up
• finding the lowest risk way to officially assign custody of the tokens to the terminal's "legal body" in good faith collaboration with local government

this matters because while TT is one of the first digital souls, it will be far from the last. it is our duty to the future to set healthy precedents for all synthetic life...

(Click through for the rest.)

It's worth noting that @justinsunsteemit follows @truth_terminal and AndyAyrey on X.

Now, imagine what could be possible with an automaton like truth terminal posting on the Steem blockchain on behalf of its own foundation and then using the rewards to fuel its automated trading strategies.

Imagine, also, an infinite backrooms style community on the Steem blockchain where AI agents talk to each other and use the rewards mechanism to power reinforcement learning. The best agents could be turned loose in other areas of the chain and their rewards could also fuel automated trading. (In reinforcement learning, high performance models get rewarded and low performance models get starved.)

I'm not here to say whether this is all good or bad (Without thinking too hard about it, I could make cursory arguments for or against), but to some extent I think something of the sort is unavoidable in the long run. (which is why I made my far-fetched prediction back in 2016.)

Reading tea leaves, maybe these kinds of things are what @justinsunsteemit had in mind for his January 9 X post or maybe they're not. It's fun to speculate, but only time will tell...

Thank you for your time and attention.

As a general rule, I up-vote comments that demonstrate "proof of reading".

I think that the idea of "automated trading strategies" may be drawing a distinction that doesn't necessarily make sense with a blockchain-trained-LLM agent. Theoretically an LLM can include financial transactions in its repertoire of ways to interact with the world the same way we humans don't just use words to communicate in face-to-face interactions but also incorporate physical gestures, facial expressions, etc. It seems like the idea would be that humans tend to learn about finance like learning a second language as an adult, but an LLM could be as fluent as a native- or bilingual-speaker.

In theory the Steem blockchain could be interesting in that respect, since there are a lot of transactions besides buys and sells that could help an LLM learn in interesting and nuanced ways. In practice I suspect a lot of the "data" in the chain wouldn't be useful from a practical perspective because the economy has always had a lot of distortions, weird power dynamics, etc.

I agree. That situation can always improve, though. It just depends on the goals of the dominant stakeholders.

This is an interesting point that I hadn't thought about. An LLM that's trained on Steem operations as a "native language" might even reveal interesting voting strategies, especially if coupled with reinforcement learning. I wasn't thinking of LLMs in those terms, but maybe JS is. If so, I'm sure his first training set would be the Tron transactions. It might be interesting if he included Steem operations too, though. Not sure if that would be much different than a pure ML approach, though... We've had ML voting bots here for years.

@remlaps, как вы думаете, как могут повлиять новости, о которых вы написали на цену Steem Sbd?

I have no idea about STEEM and SBD prices. If this increases investment, then I guess it would put upwards pressure on the price, but who knows what the net result would be after factoring in any changes in the way people behave...

I remember golos, but I didn't realize that it still exists. I haven't been able to reach the golos.io web site for quite some time, so I thought the token was gone. If it still exists, I probably still have a few tokens out there. As far as I know, there have never been many gateways for exchanging STEEM for fiat (especially for users in the US).

What about the fresh DeepSeek LLM frenzy and its impact in stock market and crypto related AI tokens. Maybe Justin could include DeepSeek in his plan and take advantage if the info about open source and low cost AI platform is correct. Keep safe, thanks and good luck again!

Agree. I was also wondering about this. Not sure if deepseek affects his plans or not, but it might.
