Meta will develop robots with its AI.

Meta creates a new division.

What if humanoid robots seem to really be the technology to develop in the coming years and one of the indications is the number of companies that are investing in this sector, Meta has just created a new division focused on the development of humanoid robots powered by Artificial Intelligence.

The company that has already invested billions in the metaverse, that is, it was focused on virtual and augmented reality, now intends to combine its advanced AI models with physical robotics aimed at domestic and industrial applications, but Meta can compete with Giants that are already ahead such as Tesla and Ai in this race for humanoid robots of the future according to an internal meta memo.

The objective.

It is to develop humanoid robots that interact with the physical environment using Next Generation AI, the new division will be directed by Mark Witten, former CEO of the autonomous car company Cruise, the initial focus will be to create Hardware and Software for domestic humanoid robots while also offering solutions for other companies in the sector.

With this movement, Meta has just taken its models beyond virtual assistants, transforming them into machines capable of acting in the physical world. In recent years, the owner of Facebook has faced financial challenges with its Reality Labs unit, which recorded a loss of $5 billion in the last quarter. Perhaps that is the reason why they are changing the direction of investments from virtual to physical and focusing on research to integrate AI and robotics.

Change of course

Since 2021, Meta has funded projects to create AI capable of seeing, hearing and navigating in physical environments, the chief scientist emphasizes that language models alone are not enough for robots to understand the physical world and there is still time to enter this dispute, which is why despite the initial difficulties the market for humanoid robots is highly promising that can open a new path for the company's growth.

Although Meta is entering robotics with force, the company will have to face giant competitors such as Tesla, Figure Ai, Unit 3 Robotics, Forier Intelligence, Boston Dynamicsc and many others. The Tesla Optimus, for example, will be available to consumers by 2026 and could transform Tesla into a $25 billion company.

Tesla plans to manufacture robots at a cost of 10,000 and sell us for 20,000, capturing 10% of the global market with a relatively competitive price for such an innovative product, meanwhile Mera is starting negotiations with companies such as unittree, figure IA possibly to collaborate with financing or with its experience in and perhaps it is a strategy to be able to compete in the development of robots.

The advancement of AI in recent years has driven the development of robots, but the challenges are enormous, costs and commercial viability, creating a robot that is so useful and accessible to consumers is still a complicated challenge, integration with society, how will these robots interact with humans, will they replace jobs or only exist in repetitive tasks.

AI still does not fully understand the physical world despite advances, teaching a robot to act in the real environment is much more complex than training in a jetbot. Meta is betting that its experience in augmented reality can overcome these barriers and create a useful robot for everyday life, what is your opinion?
