According to these researchers from California, these magnetic fields are due to the existence of a fluid layer and that layer could be large oceans of liquid water on both Neptune and Uranus. In fact, they claim that planetary ice separates into high-pressure phases, so there would be that layer of gas, which is what we see, a large, very dense and very large and very important atmosphere, but underneath there would be a layer of ice and at high pressure, below that layer of ice there would be another layer rich in water and a lower one, below that layer of ice. water dominated by hydrocarbons, that is, organic compounds, this changes the picture a lot.
There was another piece of information, they gave two configurations, one, that the ice layer was above, that is, a gas layer, an ice layer and then the surface ocean, under that ice layer and then the hydrocarbons and organic compounds or the second option, a mass of gas that is a dense atmosphere, a mass of water and below high pressure ice and then the hydrocarbons, it would be amazing because it would also be another option for another place where life could have emerged.
