Fakir didn't lie!

“Ha!”
The Islamic teacher laughed while standing before the three young adults in front of the mosque.
“Is that why you want to see imam?” He continued “you've brought a small matter. Your dream simply implies that more money is coming your way.”
“Oh..” Greg lets out before turning to Zainab and Adam, almost grinning. Just then a man passed by them and went away. Zainab recognized him as a fakir in the mosque.
“Next time, you could also come to see me directly, no need to go through the trouble of finding the imam. I could do just as fine” the priest encouraged while an unfathomable glint flashed through his orbs.
“Oh. Great. Fine! That's fine then…”Greg raised his brows at him questionably.
“Malik. Teacher Malik” he filled in.
“Thank you. Such little matter. Ha! Now I'm relieved. Here” he skimmed through his wallet before handing out a wad of cash to Malik, who almost snatched it from his hands and stuffed it into his pocket as fast as he could.

“I still think you should see the imam. Giving the teacher that much even seems like a bad idea to me. What if he's lying?” Zainab said as soon as they walked away.

“Same here.” Adam said

“It's fine. His interpretation matches my dream perfectly” Greg insisted.

“I-” but Zainab was cut off.

“Peace be unto you” an hoarse voice called out to them.
“Peace be unto you too” Zainab replied, taking a good look at the man from earlier. The fakir! She goes to the mosque often and she'd sometimes see this man for as long as she'd been coming to worship.
He'd devoted his life to his faith and the mosque; and she'd most of the time find him seated by the entrance or in the mosque.

“Hmm” Greg merely let out a hum in reply.

“I think you might have been duped” the fakir went straight to the point. He was behind the pillar where those four stood and listened to the greedy teacher spew out lies.
“Your dream…you might have to do something about it.” This had only caused a slight frown on Greg's face along with others.

“From what I can gather, you might be losing a substantial amount of fortune soon. Like money.” And Greg was done with him

“Hm. Thanks” he dismissed with a piece of cash, obviously displeased.

“Greg…” Adam tried to caution him.

“I don't need your money.” The fakir said instead “I'd rather you do me the favor of going into a two-days fasting and pra-”

He didn't get to finish it as the person he was reasoning with was already walking out on him. Zainab and Adam let out a short frantic apology before going after him.

“You didn't have to be like that” Adam chided
“He should stop trying to act modest. He obviously saw me give out money to Malik and came for his share.”

“ The fakir doesn't even want your money” Zainab almost snapped.

“It's all an act. He should stop being greedy. And what was he spewing about fasting? Pff. No way I'm losing my money, I'll be richer instead”

“I'm not having this conversation with you guys” Adam said, walking away with Zainab right after him.

Four days had passed and true to the fakir’s words and not the priest, Greg somehow lost almost all his money and assets. He couldn't even explain how; he'd rushed to the mosque without his friends this time.

“I'm sorry, the fakir seems to have gone on his solitary retreat again. We don't know where he went and when he'd be back, but he might take a while”
They informed him in his search for medicine after death.

But he was done for.

I have heard may stories like this took place in Aceh, about mysterious man who came, deliver some news, and then gone. They were always the same: male, old, shabby clothes. They often come with bad news.

Thanks for reading.

Not sure.
But I wouldn't say all @aneukpineung.
Thanks for reading too

Fakirs, ascetics, mendicants... whether Muslim, Buddhist, or Christian, they come to show us that there is something more behind the rituals, in their decision to renounce material goods to draw closer to their deity.

Equally misunderstood, you describe this in Adam's reaction to the fakir's interpretation and his rejection of his money.

A striking story in this regard.

Thanks for reading 😊😌
