The Upcoming Family Gathering

Marsha is not one to comfortably mix and mingle. She is quiet and prefers one on one. Too many people and she gets confused. Who is saying what and why. It's very taxing for her. And can take days to recuperate from the overload of input from a family gathering.
She is not on the best of terms with some of her family. Roger her older brother just won't let her ever forget the stupid thing she did leaving the university to run away with a house painter. Every chance he gets he throws out something to reminder her. It is now to the point where he doesn't even have to say anything. All he has to do is glare at her and she knows he's thinking about that again.
Cousin Laura and her husband Tim always make Marsha feel stifled. Laura for some reason always puts Marsha down. Like Laura is talking down from inside her nose which is pointed way up in the air. Marsha is still trying to root out the invasive potted plant Laura gave her for her birthday three years ago that ran wild all over the yard when she put in the ground.
Oh well. They insist on these monthly gatherings at Aunt Teresa and Uncle Bill's house. And there's another one coming up in a few says. By holding her breath, Marsha can usually go for the dive into the mix and get through the thing. It's definitely an ordeal. Nothing in common with any of them. But this week, Marsha has a lot on her mind. She has enrolled in adult education classes to learn how to write. She is making so many new friends. She doesn't want to go to one of these family gatherings this month.
As the days are passing and it's getting closer to the time for the gathering Marsha is becoming more and more anxious. Maybe there is a way she can get out of it. Sick? That's a possibility. But she doesn't like to lie. She doesn't want to do that but if need be she will. Just to save her sanity and peace of mind. Why jump into a pit of snakes? It's terrible to think of family members like snakes. But how else can she see it considering how they treat her.
Well. Lucky day for Marsha. Next best thing to winning the lottery. Aunt Teresa called to say how sorry she was but there has been a change of plans and the gathering is canceled for this month. Uncle Bill has been promoted to regional director has been called away by his company to help open a new warehouse in another state.
Jumping for joy and truly showing how happy she is to hear of Uncle Bill's promotion, Marsha assures her aunt it's not a problem if there has been a change of plans and the family gathering has been canceled this month.

What motivates Marsha to enroll in adult education program where she is able to make new friends and engage herself with strangers. Why family members behave with her like that she thought them as snacks. She is more happy for the cancellation of party rather than the promotion of her uncle. Greetings.

Marsha is socially awkward. Social skills are nill so writing gives her an opportunity to associate with others from a safe distance.

Sometimes not all members of a family are desirable. We don't choose our family members. Sometimes we get stuck with some who are aggressive, hostile, envious , etc .
Yes. It was a great relief for her. She was happy for her uncle but even more happy to not have to go.

It was doubly happy. Marsha didn't have to go the gathering and Uncle Bill got promoted. Sometimes things just have a way of working themselves out. Patience is a good thing to have. Best wishes..
