Minerals are natural substances, that can be made of one element or more elements combined together. The body needs this essential minerals. And this essential minerals are divided into two the major mineral and the trace mineral. The major is known as macromineral, while the trace mineral is regarded as micromineral.
The two groups of mineral are equally important to the body, but sometimes the trace mineral are needed in smaller quantity then the major mineral. Every balanced diet most time provides all the essential minerals.
The macromineral, functions and sources.
The mineral listed below are the major minerals and most times needed in bigger quantity unlike the trace minerals. And they are as follows:
Chloride:
This is a chemical compound and its formula is CI-, atomic number 17. It is needed for a fluid balance, stomach acide. And it is seen in soy, table salt; it is in large about in any processed foods but smaller amount in milk, bread and vegetables.
Potassium :
It is a mineral found in the foods we eat and it is a chemical element with the symbol K, it is a silvery- white metal soft enough to be cut with a knife and with a little force, atomic number 19. It is needed in the body for proper fluid balance, nerve transmission, and muscle contraction. The Potassium is in meat, fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains milk.
Sodium:
This is a chemical element with the symbol Na, atomic number 11. And it is needed for proper fluid balance nerve transmission, and muscles contraction. It is seen in table salt, soy sauce; large amount in procesaed foods, small amount on bread, milk, vegetables and unprocessed meats.
Sulfur:
It has a symbol of S and atomic number 16, needed for protein molecules. It's occurs in foods as part of protein; meat, poultry, eggs, milk, legumes and fish.
Phosphorus:
This is a chemical element, witb the symbol P and atimic number 12. This is needed for a healthy bones and teeth, also found in every cell and also part of the system that maintains acid base balance. It is seen in meat, poultry, eggs, milk anf fish.
Magnesium:
It helps the bone, needed for making protein muscles, contraction, nerve transmission, immune system health. And is seen in legumes, leafy green vegetables, seafood, chocolate hard drinking water nuts and seed. A chemical element with the symbol Mg and atomic number 12.

The body needs trace minerals but but in a larger amounts.
Zinc:
this type of mineral carries out so many functions in the body of an organism. It function in taste understanding, wound healing, production of sperm, normal growth and sexual maturation. It is gotten from fish, vegetables, meat, poultry and leavened whole grains. Zinc is a chemical element with the symbol Zn and atomic number 30.
Copper:
It is a chemical element reddish with the symbol Cu and atomic number 29. It is part of many enzymes and it is needed for iron metabolism. It is seen in nuts and seeds, organ meats, drinking water.
Molybdenum:
It is a chemical element with the sy mbol No and atomic number 42. It works in the body to break down proteins and other substances. It is seen in breads and grains, l eafy greens, vegetables, milk and liver.
Chromium:
This is a chemical element with the symbol of Cr and atomic number 24. It works with insulin to regulate blood sugar levels. Gotten from liver, nuts, cheeses, while grains.
Fluoride:
It has a chemical formula F, and it is atomic number 9. Helps in formation of bones and teeth and also prevents tooth decay. This is gotten from drinking water, fish, and most teas.
Manganese :
It has the symbol Mm and atomic number 25. It is found in mineral with combination with iron. It helps the body form connective tissues, bones, blood clothing factors and tea.
Selenium:
It has the symbol Se and atomic number 34. It plays an important role in the body and it helps shower oxidative stress in the body which inflammation and enhance immunity. And it is found in pork, beef, chicken, egg and fish.
Iodine:
It is found in seafood, a chemical element with the symbol I and atomic number 53. It helps in regulating growth, development and metabolism. Seen in seafood, bread, iodized salt, dairy products.

Iron:
Found in blood cells that carries oxygen in the body, and is needed for energy metabolism. Found in organ meats, red meats, poultry, egg yolks, dried fruits, fortified cereals and fish. It is a mineral that is naturally present in many food, it is a chemical element with the symbol Fe and atomic number 26.
