SLC S23W4/ Puppets

God's gift stopped me from procrastinating today; it wasn't as if I didn't have intentions of creating content with her, but I was a bit busy this week. She bumped into my room after school telling me to create content, and I told her how interesting this week's content would be and that I was making preparations to make it fun. It was already late in the evening, and we needed to recreate something out of some materials.

We went outside with our working table and stool, which was very good for relaxation so that our cuts and attachments would be perfect, at least to some extent.

In the Yoruba land, there is a general name given to two identical twins, and that is Taiwo and Kehinde, and this idea came up when I was searching for something in a room and found a pair of socks that is coloured.

MATERIALS USED

Materials used for this puppet making are,

WOOLS, we choose two distinctive colours for this puppet making, and that is pink and black wool.

A PAIR OF SOCKS definitely means a sock of the same colour, meaning that they look alike just like twins.

CARD BOARDS, remember we are making a twin, but they have very distinctive features that identify them, and that is the structure of their face, which is slightly represented by the different colours of cardboard paper. And also the height of this child's forearm.

Cardboard on the table

GUM , at first we wanted to use a thread and needle, then I saw that it may be very hard for the kids to sew in and out of the socks, so I went for a gum.

SCISSORS will be used for cutting the cardboard.

A MARKER was used to mark the eyes after cutting the cardboard.

HOW IT STARTED

Together with these children, we were able to make a puppet, and this is how it started.

  • We took the cardboard paper and drew the eye, nose, and mouth that will be used, and then I gave the children the scissors to cut the elements out from the traces.
DrawingCutting
  • After cutting this element, my marker was used to make the element, like the eye, outstanding by drawing a black spot (pupil) in the middle of the eye.
  • Attaching this element on the socks can only be made possible when worn, so I asked one child to wear the socks on one hand while the other fixes it. The position of where I am supposed to place the eye is where I poured the gum on, and each element (the nose, eyes, and mouth) was placed on it.
Placing forearm by the elbow to attach the elements
  • The same thing was done on the second child's hand and I still poured the gum while the other child, used her other hand to place the element on where the gum was poured.
  • For the hair, it wasn't braided at all; all I did was arrange them and place it over the puppet's head, and we were done.

How many puppets did they make? What character do you think they would create? What could they do with it?

They only made two puppets because of time, and as I said beforehand, since the two pairs of socks were alike, I observed they just made a slightly unidentical twin known as Taiwo and Kehinde.

Watch this video below. After the creation, they started discussing together, using their voices to represent that of the puppet, so they used this puppet to act like they were in the market. You know how children love to try out something; if I were the one to get them a scene, it would have been longer than this.

Was it difficult to make the puppet? What was your overall experience like?

Taiwo
Kehinde

The difficulty that would have been encountered would have been if I wasn't able to find my gum because sewing would have taken so much time, and also it would have been hard for the children to participate in the attachment process. Another thing I discovered and took correction on was that without much gum, the elements will fall off. The complexity in making a puppet depends on its design, I choose a simple design, nevertheless each process took so much commitment and time.

Did the child enjoy this activity? What did he or she enjoy most?

All of them were girls; the part they enjoyed most was when I attached the eye and it kept falling off. They were very careful when cutting the cardboard to avoid cutting the elements. They were calling each of these puppets by their own name and laughing at each other. Their argument about which puppet is the most beautiful was funny to me as well. Blessing called my attention to show me that God's gift eye is falling off. The whole process was fun-filled. Another thing, lest I forget, they all carried it out of the scene to show their parent. They didn't want to release the puppets, so I bought biscuits for them to release the puppet after I told them that they shouldn't spoil it as it will be used next week.

I would love for @edu-chemist, @whizzbro4eva @spektro223, and @faires to join in this contest.

This children are playing with what I used to be afraid of. O yes! while growing up I dislike things that acted human but were not.

Those things I referred to them as ghost. 😂. Meanwhile, I will give a try here as I have come to realize that puppets are not ghosts

Thanks so much for the invite
