Bunga Desa
Photo bersama jodohku merupakan koleksi pribadi
Ibu
lihat siapa datang hari ini
dua orang lelaki
membawa gula dan roti
siapakah mereka Ibu?
Ibu melihat dengan tersenyum
mereka itu selangke
yang akan bertanya
apakah bunga desa
sudah ada kumbang yang datang
untuk memetik madu
Ibu
jangan beri aku pada mereka
katakan aku sudah
memiliki
calon pendamping
Village Flower
Mother, look, who's coming today?
Two men bringing sugar and bread, who are they, Mother?
Mother smiles, "They're matchmakers, coming to ask
If the village flower has a bee to collect its nectar."
Mother, don't give me to them, tell them I already have a suitor
Mother smiles, "He's the one who will strengthen the bond between you and him
Let the elders speak, as a sweet girl, accept what Mother has planned
For he is your destiny."

Layak mendapatkannya karena dia memang jodohku.
Masa itu, ketika perempuan masih merdeka dengan rambutnya. Foto yang penuh kenangan bersama sang mantan, tentu saja. =D
if the ex this means mother did a bad job?

By ex in my comment, I mean ‘ex-boyfriend’ who has now become ‘husband’. 😅😅 This kind of termination is often used in Indonesian conversational language.
Sounds painful.. mother decides about destiny. Will mother be responsible if the daughter is abused, neglected and unhappy? How grateful I am that mom will never do this to me and I am free to decide myself.

In the past, it was common for parents to give their daughters a mate, as relationships were very limited back then, and young women did not have relationships with young men as freely as they do today. And certainly, parents would not give their daughters to just any man without consideration and without knowing the man's family. Whether or not there is happiness in marriage, in my opinion, is never guaranteed, including in marriages where there is no parental involvement.
