Roblox Requires Age Verification to Access Communication Features

Roblox has announced new rules regarding the use of communication features on its platform. Starting later this year, all users will be required to go through an age assessment process before accessing communication features, both voice and text.

Currently, users of the popular online gaming service over the age of 9 can use filtered chat without verification. However, this policy will be replaced with a stricter verification system.

The age assessment process will utilize a combination of facial recognition technology, ID card verification, and parental consent. This step is expected to create a safer gaming experience for children.

Roblox's Head of Security, Matt Kaufman, called the new policy part of a commitment to protecting families. "This process can help parents make the best decisions for their children," he said, as quoted by the Verge.

This decision comes amid growing scrutiny of Roblox's safety practices. Last August, the state of Louisiana even sued Roblox, accusing it of creating a risky environment for children.
