Who is the first female prime minister of the world? She is Sirimavo Bandaranaike from Sri Lanka. Yes a big proud moment for us. Did you know that the first queen of Asia is also from Sri Lanka? But her story is quite different. Here is that story of 'queen Anula of Anuradapura' as mentioned in 'Rajawaliya'.

After the death of king Maha Chulika Tissa, the crown was taken by prince Mahanaaga who was one of the son of king Walagabamba and was a dangerous thug and a thief. Yes he was a robber though he was a prince. That is why people known him as 'Choranaaga'. Both his activities and look scared people. He started to rack the monks who didn't help him to hide in temples and treasures in temples were also robbed by him.

But karma is dangerous. He appointed Anula who was beautiful and had a great lust as his main queen. But Mahanaga wasn't able to console her lust .He kept Anula as the queen even after catching her flirting with a handsome cleaner. Anula somehow consoled her lust with that cleaner and killed Mahanaga by poisoning as she had contentions with king about her lust.

Remember the former king Maha Chulika Tissa? One of his two son named Makalan Tissa had hidden as a monk while other son named Kuda Tissa came and married Anula. But Kuda Tissa was also killed by poisoning after 3 years as she was in love with a Tamil servant named Shiva. Then she appointed Shiva as the king. But he also got poisoned after one year.

Then she respectively appointed a carpenter named Watuka for 14 months, a servent named Dharakatiya who supplied wood to the palace for 13 months and a brahmin named Niliya for a short perioed as the king and killed them by poisoning. Within next 6 years she had relationships with and killed 20 men without appointing them as kings. She by herself ruled the country in a irresponsible manner. Strange fact is she never got kids.

But both her lust and hectic ruling were finished by king Makalantissa who came with an army after quitting hiding as a monk by burning down the palace with her. Then he ruled the country for 22 years. So karma has worked on her as well.

Your article draws my mind back to our school days' history lessons, where I used to love listening to the historical stories of our country. You have created this in a very beautiful way for the reader to understand well. We as Sri Lankans should be proud of our ancient history, right?
