Butterflies enjoying a mudhole in arid Arizona

Water is precious, especially here in the arid Southwest. A damp spot in this usually dry creek bed provides a welcome source of moisture (and dissolved minerals from the nearby copper mines) for several Western Tiger Swallowtail butterflies (Papilio rutulus) 20220717_132653.jpg
