Not many players will get away with publicly talking about their contract situation in the manner Mohammed Salah did ahead of their Champions League game against Real Madrid. Many have in fact faced criticism over less but the Egyptian seems to be immune.

Salah said when asked about his contract situation that no one had spoken to him about a new contract, even though he's in the final year of his current contract. Like him, Trent Alexander Arnold and club captain, Virgil Van Dijk are also in the final months of their contracts.

The irony of the situation is how much Salah has been able to separate the off-field situation from his performances on the pitch. For a guy whose future is uncertain, he has never failed to give a 100% in every game. His 11 goals already in just 13 Premier League games this season is only bettered by Erling Haaland's 12.

While it waits to be seen what Liverpool do regarding his contract situation, it has become a practice with clubs these days, to typically offer players who are in their thirties one or two years of contract with sometimes an option for extension and I think Liverpool may be trying to thread cautiously.

To Salah's credit and in his defence, he is one of many few players who hardly miss matches due to injury and this I believe should give him an edge in the contract talks. Perhaps, he may ask for three years.

Even though they've been speculations about where his figure lies, I don't see him leaving Liverpool at the end of the season at least.
