History of Aceh
With regard to Acehnese name, Lombard mentioned that the name of Aceh was only mentioned with certainty in the Oriental Suma composed in Malacca circa 1950 by Portuguese Tomé Pires. Lombard goes on to say that the word Aceh is spelled Achei. A few years later, in a book written by Barros entitled Da Asia it was mentioned that the spelling of the word Aceh with Achei had undergone a change in the form of a sounding sound at the end of the word, Achem. The sounding of this sound is also found in European manuscripts of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. In the European texts in these centuries the word Aceh is spelled Achin and Atchin.
