The City initialy begin in its coastal part named Sunda Kelapa around 14th century. After the conquest of Demak kingdoms, that succesfully repelled the Portuguese colony in 1527, the city change its names into Jayakarta, means victory. Then after the city was occupied by the Dutch VOC in 1602, its changed the names again into Batavia, which will remains so till Japanese occupation in 1942, which changes its names into Jakarta. The names last even after the Indonesia independence in 1945, until today.
