Dewatering...Why is it important? P-100 Water Pump US Navy
All sailors should be proficient at damage control. You should know the basics of the primary equipment held in the repair lockers and along the p-ways. One such piece of equipment is the dewatering pumps, don't expect a Damage Controlman to be there at the time of accident, collision or battle damage.
You may be needed to save the ship.

(Pump - P100)
The P-100 pump is a commercial, diesel-engine driven portable pump designed for firefighting and limited dewatering functions aboard ships. It consists of an engine, centrifugal pump, exhaust primer, discharge valve, rope-recoil start, attached 1.45-gallon fuel tank and a compound pressure gage.
The engine is a Yanmar L100EE Diesel that is an air-cooled, one cylinder, 4-cycle engine rated at 10-horsepower and runs on JP-5 or F-76 fuels (DFM). The ideal fuel is JP-5 due to the temperature operating range of the engine. The rated capacity of the pump at a 20-foot suction lift is 100 GPM at 83 psi supplying one 1 1/2-inch hose for two 1 3/4-inch hoses and maintaining pressure at the vari-nozzle of 75 to 83 PSI.
For lifts of up to 20 feet, the pump should be rigged with a 3-inch by 10-foot suction hose with foot valve; up to two lengths can be used without an eductor. At this height, it can supply one 1 1/2-inch (limited to one due to friction loss), one 2 1/2-inch, or two 1 3/4-inch hoses.
The pump's base size is 23 1/2 inches wide by 21 inches in diameter by 24 1/2 inches high, and it weighs 165 pounds.
