History of the Telegraph
The electric telegraph, is a machine that is used to transmit information encoded by impulses and electrical signals, capable of transforming human thought at the speed of light. One of the greatest inventions of the nineteenth century was what originated Samuel Morse, one of the best known along with Alfred Vail.
From the time of the student Morse was attracted, by the various inventions that were being made, by those years. Also, he was interested with great force for the Fine Arts. This inventor and artist had spread throughout the world, his interest in electrical inventions never ceased to be latent.
Over the years he realized that by interrupting the passage of electricity through a circuit, a kind of glare was produced. Therefore, he thought that by means of these interruptions, a means of communication could be created. Morse, built his first telegraph model with pieces he had found in his studio, Morse invested 10 years in the creation of the world; He also developed the first international code consisting of spaces, dashes and points that was used to transmit messages. With the support of the US government, Morse encouraged the installation of telegraph lines.
The telegraphists had to master the Morse alphabet, but how did they know when one character ended and the next began? as a separation they were introduced between a character and three other blank spaces, the first message that Morse sent from Washington was "What God has Created".
In the past, the messages took days to arrive, with the telegraph they traveled the world in a matter of hours and reached the receiver quickly. Throughout history different telegraphs were developed. In 1833, after several initiatives that were successful in different parts of the world.
Types of telegraphs
• Electric telegraph, a telecommunication device for remote signal transmission.
• Optical telegraph, a device to send signals visually.
• Nautical telegraph, a device to transmit orders from the bridge to the engine room.
In comparison with the media that were used in previous generations, today the advancement of technology has changed the different means to communicate so it is important to know the trajectory of these stories.
