The Occupation of Wounded Knee
On this day, February 27th, 1973, the Wounded Knee Occupation began. About 200 Native American activists seized control of Wounded Knee, South Dakota. It went on for 71 days and wouldn't have been possible if access to weapons had been restricted. Politics aside, the 2nd amendment allows us to be armed and ready for anything. It allows us to take a stand against any governing bodies, at any level, and let our voice be heard.
But those against the 2nd amendment will tell you that 44 years ago was a different time. Very sad to think that in ways this is slightly true... but this is an example where you are spot on.
As the old adage goes "The 2nd is there to protect the 1st" is true. Too bad future generations may not have the same abilities that past generations have had, as our rights continue to be eroded bit by bit each generation.
The same weapons that existed then still exist now. I come from this group of people so, it doesn't seem like it was that long ago for us. We are interested in keeping this right.
