Nehaj Fortress- amazing thing to see
This summer I went on Croatian cost with my mother, grandpa, and grandma.
We visit the Nehaj Fortress, historical fortress from Senj, which was a major point in croatian history When we defend from Turkey attackers.
The Nehaj Fortress, the symbol of the city of Senj, was built in 1558 under the supervision of the captain and general of the Croatian Military Region Ivan Lenkovic and Captain Herbert VIII. Auersperga Turjaški. It is built of materials destroyed by churches, monasteries and houses originally located outside the city walls.
It has a bumpy shape, and is oriented towards the sides of the world. It is 18 feet high and 23 meters wide. It entered the stairs through a wooden bridge through a narrow double door. The walls are thick from 2 to 3.30 m, are narrowed to the top, and end with a crotch with five small corner towers. There are about a hundred loopholes and eleven large cannon openings in the walls.
Inside there is a cistern - a well above which there are three coats: the left coat of arms of Captain Ivan Lenkovic with the year of the construction of the fortress, in the middle of the coat of arms of the Austrian Archduke Ferdinand I. the then master Senj, and the right coat of arms of Senj captain Herbert VIII. Auersperga Turjaški. On the ground floor on the right was a fireplace, and around the rooms for soldiers and weapons. Here you can see the foundations of the small Roman church of St. Juraj from XI. st.
On the first floor there were rooms for the officers and commander of the fort. On the second floor a cannon of 11 heavy cannons was located, and today there are renowned cultural and musical events, scientific gatherings and other cultural events. Top of the fortress serves as a gazebo. From there, watchmen watched the shores of the Senj from the land and sea, and received smoke and light signals from their associates from the islands and coasts. From the top of the fort, there is a beautiful view of the Croatian coast and the islands of Rab, Goli, Prvić, Cres, Krk, mountains of Gorski kotar, Učka and Velebit.
