Great spies. Part 8-Kim Philby

in #history6 years ago

Kim was the son of a high-ranking British official serving in India and the famous Arabist Harry St. John Philby. He got the name in honor of Kim, who was fighting with Russian spies, from the same novel by Kipling.
Being an opponent of fascism, he worked with Soviet intelligence since he was 22. During the Spanish Civil War he was a correspondent for the Times newspaper. At age 38 he entered the British intelligence service SIS and a year later became deputy chief of counterintelligence.

During the Great Patriotic War, he supplied the USSR with information that the British had withheld from his allies. Later he headed the anti-communist movement in Britain, a residency in Istanbul. Directing the communications mission in Washington, he got access to the secrets of the American special services.

At 39, I was under suspicion, warning of the danger of Soviet agents. The British Themis did not obtain evidence of his guilt, but the career went downhill.
Philby was transferred to the Middle East, where he acted under the guise of a correspondent. After 50 years was transferred to the Soviet Union. I got an apartment in the center of Moscow and married (the fourth in a row) with a Soviet citizen.
