On the afternoon of Thanksgiving eve, November 24, 1971, a man carrying a black attaché case approached the flight counter of Northwest Orient Airlines at Portland International Airport. He identified himself as "Dan Cooper" and purchased a one-way ticket on Flight 305, a 30-minute trip to Seattle.

Portland was the scene of another infamous crime that occurred on Thanksgiving 11 years earlier.

On Thanksgiving 1960, Beverly Allan and Larry Peyton were teenagers who had driven to a lovers lane retreat in Forest Park to enjoy themselves, when their lives were cruelly snatched away.

Larry Peyton was discovered the following evening in the front seat of his car, a victim of 23 stab wounds and a blow to the head.

The following day, the sheriff recorded Edward Wayne Edwards at the crime scene. He noticed a fresh bullet wound on Edwards' arm. Evidence proved a shot had been fired from Larry Peyton.

Edwards escaped jail before questioning, and was place on the FBI 10 Most Wanted list.
